He's not a bad coach. Playoffs 10/13 years, kept an old Minnesota team in the hunt this year, revived Eric Staal's career... You can debate whether he's right for this team, but he's not a bad coach. - TheSabresTaco

He's a bad coach - SABRES 89
Really putting your foot down on this one. That's fine.
Maybe one could say, he's the olives of coaching. Good? Bad? Depends who's viewing him. |

isn't Bylsma coaching as an assistant in the NHL somewhere? Does he still get paid by Buffalo then? - sabreadvocate1
Yep. I think he had a 5 yr contract, so we're paying him for next season too. |

Ya know, I feel like you above all else should be happy about this. He's a veteran's coach. Something this team really isn't yet. Most of our vets (UFA eligible age) guys suck. |

This team needs a veteran coach with discipline and he is that however, he can't make it past a point, his shelve life may be over. |

The team would’ve respected a three time Stanley Cup champion if not then no one was going to save them
I don’t like AV at all he couldn’t win it with the king or the Sedin twins and Roberto
Q took 3 different types of teams to the cup

If he gets fired, don't be surprised if word goes round that he's a finalist. It's definitely clear they're looking into more experienced guys.. whether that be AHL or NHL head coaches. So we'll see. As far as retread coaches are concerned, he's probably #2 behind Q. |

It has little to do with respect. Phil Housley is a HHoFer. It has to do with actually coaching. And Phil can't actually coach. |

Bump:
Pegula’s are paying 4/5 coaches & GM’s, trying to make it right (for both franchises). To say they are the problem, is just wrong. They did inherit and save both franchises, in saying that (they don’t have the background to run franchises, I get that). They have tried to bring in different experienced individuals to run their business both off and on the playing field (ice).
They are trying to find the right mix and clean things up, (see Russ Brandon/Doug Whaley - inherited). It’s time to get off their back’s and understand how they continue to try to make things right. To blame the Pegulas, to me is just wrong and one sided. They are trying to give their athletes the best possible facilities/environment in professional sports, to succeed. But yeah, they are to blame for all the franchises downfalls.
Look back at the Sabres since 1970, 2 to 3 years couple grade runs (for 5 decades) and then a rebuild. I’m sticking by my hometown teams and know that good things are to come, we all knew this season was a possible run at a 8th, 9th 10th spot. GMJB is doing what he said, winning in Rochester (these young kids will get a taste of playoffs together). I love the fact GMJB canned Phil this morning, says a lot about his leadership. Would have been easy to keep Housley on for another year, see Darcy!
I’m excited for the upcoming years for both franchises, I feel they are both heading in the right direction. No one is sitting on their hands and excepting the status quo. Just my thoughts!
*Montour trade was the perfect example of GMJB vision (with resources from trades), we will see more of these types of moves moving forward! GMTM tried the fast track rebuild (see the Kane & Robin Lehner moves). JB just trying to clean up! |

FWIW
Josh Reed believes Boudreau is a "players coach" after covering his Hershey Bears teams, and being from Toronto, that he's been "told" that Buffalo is a place he would like to coach. |

I disagree
in firing Housley, I feel Botts now has 2 years instead of 1
odds we fire a coach after 1 season is slim and none, unless we bring back rolston or nolan - homiedclown
If next season's team "outperforms" this season's team, as in as bad or worse, I'd bet my house on them both being fired. |

Gross. I know people are making the AV connection bc the WC, and JM cause of Pittsburgh, but both are classic cases of short shelf life guys. Of course, could be wrong, but I just don't see the good in AV. Fans hated his decisions in Vancouver and NY. |
