The Caps are so ridiculously overrated it’s almost shocking. If not for the whole Met underperforming this year then all people would be talking about is how the Caps underperformed outside of OV.
- dcoms77

The entire Met had a down year, even the non-playoff teams, which is why Carolina got in. But they're the defending champs and a division winner, so I think it would be silly to say they don't deserve to be favorites.

- MattStrat

Meh, they had a better roster the last time they won the presidents trophy and look what good that did them.

Dumo and ZAR full participants.

Sully maybe messing with lines?

Interesting split among forward jersey colors ...
Black: Crosby, Guentzel, Rust, McCann, Malkin, Hornqvist
Gold: Bjugstad, Kessel, Simon, Cullen, Blueger, Wilson and ZAR

Last year was the weakest on paper roster the Caps had in a long time IMO...

I didn't realize the CBJ Bolts season series was so one sided. Yikes. I'm more confident in my sweep prediction.

Have to think this series is going at least 6. Like one Isles fan said last blog, they play a style of hockey suited for the playoffs. Add in a hot goalie that can steal games and anything can happen. 1st goal is huge in this series.

- Thorny87

Played* over the last 25 games the pens are far superior in terms of limiting scoring chances and high danger scoring chances. Their goaltending is great, but their team D isn't what it was earlier this season.
Also, Bolts in 3

I have no problem with Phil on the 3rd. Malkin getting two badass forecheckers in McCann and horny isn't a bad thing.

2 D PP unit is a horrid idea and completely neutralizes the man advantage. What’s the point of a PP if you’re gonna be a püssy about it?

They’ll give up chances no matter what because every PP has 1 guy high and two guys in the half wall. That’s the whole point of the advantage you have two guys high at the points your wasting your PP and allowing the PKers to play man on the 3 guys down low forcing the 2 point men to pass back and forth for two minutes And shoot through too many bodies. It’s pointless.

Oh yeah, I dont agree with them doing it either. Just think thats the logic behind it...that D-men have more defensive minded tendencies that will prevent the short handies...

Yeah they tried that when Geno and Letang were hurt and they still give up short handed chances left and right.

Teams really seem to be attacking Phil on the boards a lot more aggressively than the other players lately. They're forcing a lot of turnovers and bad passes from that side.

Yeah....whats lead to the short handies in my eyes is carelessness and not enough conviction no matter who's on the ice. After so many SH's it seems at times like they lost confidence with the PP, mentally they're more concerned with not giving up a SH instead of burying a PP goal.

That PP should be a monster and put fear in the hearts of their enemies.

The pens have a history of losing in the playoffs due to another teams superb goaltending, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves

keep counting the islanders out.. they are thriving on that energy..... keep telling them they cant run with the penguins.. .... the pens aren't what they used to be... the pens do not have something to prove... the pens...are a match up that DOES NOT scare Trotz or his team.. Isles in 6
- cmimbri

yes we should be afraid of a team that havn't gotten past the 2nd round since 93 and didn't even qualify the last 2 years. While pittsburgh in the last 3 years have won 2 stanley cups and lost the 3rd year to the eventual winners.

no one said you should be afraid... you can knock the isles all you want about their record last year and their recent play off appearances.. I still say Isles in 6.. be a fan of your team and think how ever you wish .....
