Gordon is obviously an intelligent hockey coach with a strong grasp of the game. Quite the opposite of sources that claimed on here that he was a bad coach with no system. He did a good job with what he had to deal with but I still feel the Flyers need to look elsewhere for a coach. - MJL
It'll come down to who's available and who's willing to come to the Flyers. At the end of the day, it's possible that Gordon remains the best candidate. I do hope they perform their due diligence, especially with any possible up and coming talents. |

I wonder if Fletcher's nonchalance about a new coach, I mean I'm not sure how else you would describe not beginning your search before yesterday, is an indicator that he's really had his eyes on Gordon the whole time. - shekkie
Well the season just ended...Fletcher does get to see and hear Gordon more than us. We just heard Gordon in a little more detail yesterday.
There is a lot of positives about Gordon. I didn’t like the way the team played the final 10 games. But the uncertainty factor and way the season went into disappointment played a huge part of that.
Having the interim tag removed, backing of the GM and an opportunity to change 1 or more assistant coaches would be big. Along with the aforementioned preparation, training camp, preseason, practice points, we could see if the coach is right.

I know what Fletcher has said that Gordon is a candidate....but if he didn't impress him enough to say "Scott, the job is yours" at this point...Is Gordon just the fall back choice? |

100% so maybe the bigger issue is and has been the personnel on the ice.

I'm not greedy, I'll be perfectly content with the 2nd pick tonight (as long as the Devils and Rags aren't at 1) |

Yep, and I liked so many of the things Gordon said yesterday.
“I think anything as a coach that you want to emphasize, whatever you emphasize gets done. Sometimes it’s immediate, sometimes it takes changing a mindset on how you have to do things.”—Gordon

Maybe this isn’t entirely accurate but in a way, isn’t everyone a fall back choice to Quenneville. Maybe the reality of that was always slim to none, but we didn’t know that until yesterday and the Flyers surely couldn’t say that earlier.

more of a statement to debate. This team screams for the need for change. Should Gordon be entrusted to lead them going forward? I don't know. I do know that with the on ice results, and the impending increases to ticket prices they cant have a summer of status quo.

Agreed. I like the idea of waiting to see what chips may fall. I would love laviolette back here. |

I don't think Fletcher would come out and say Gordon is the coach without really taking a look at all the options. |

I agree...I guess maybe the debate surrounds more of what is considered “status quo” and I would repeat that success next season is not optional. Results showing improvement must be tangible.
Just a guess but if Fletcher adds 2 very good players and maybe 1 depth player...and we include the dead weight he cut, the roster will have had the highest turnover in years. More depth than in years. Also, the young players will have more experience and another summer of training. On paper, in my mind, that is a big improvement. |

He wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't. I really hope they interview some fresh faces, please no Boudreau. |

Did the tank-a-thon simulation of lottery draft 100 times...
Came up with 3 first overalls, 3 2nd overalls, and 5 3rd overalls. Their percentage works pretty well. That's just over 10% chance at a top 3 pick and 3% chance of 1st overall.
God I hope we get lucky. |

Judging by what I heard from Fletcher I think Ghost will be traded for a top pairing vet defenseman... Voracek will be traded for a decent 2nd line center with good 2-way ability, and they will sign a guy like Hayes. Or Voracek could be traded for a 2 way winger and they sign a Pavelski.

Agree, they can’t come back with the exact same group, changes need to be made. |

Ghost likely will be dealt. I dont see Voracek going anywhere. |

This is incorrect. Changes dont need to be made. Just little tweaks. They need to add a player or two and I would agree they need a Vet Dman. The rest of the roster is fine. It comes down to adapting. Teams know how to counter the Flyers play. It is up to the coaches to alter their system. PP is the biggest system overhaul needed. |
