You certainly can do both. That's not the point. What is the goal? To just get better as quick as you can or to build a team with a cap situation that is sustainable over a significant period of time? If you take the quick method, you could wind up paying a lot in terms of cap hit and assets that you'll have for cheaper if you just remain patient. There is no question that the Flyers have the assets and cap space to make the team better. The question is how much better and in comparison to remaining patient. I vote for the latter. - MJL
goal is to win the cup imo.
building a team with a sustainable cap situation may lead nowhere. Are you trying to win the cap cup or Stanley cup?
There comes a time when your window is open. Having the core they have now I believe the window is open. So you either try to win with those guys or you dont. How much longer do you continue to be patient?

It does not, just saying if we look like we are starting to take the next step I wouldn't mind making that type of trade at the deadline or the follow summer. Probably looking to far ahead. |

They’re not talented enough, there’s no secondary scoring, they’re not quick enough to be where they should be, they’re not tough enough to play hard minutes or go to the dirty areas....there needs to be system changes as well as player changes. - Dave21Brown
Not talented enough? You realize the secondary scoring was Coots, Lindblom and Voracek right? 1st line was NoPa, Giroux and JVR\Konecny. You cant tell me that is not enough talent. That is plenty of talent, consistency has just been an issue for young players which is expected. |

He gets fired up on the bench which some seem to equate with good coaching.
I'd probably settle for AV. He's likely the most qualified candidate out there. |

I would think everyone thinks the goal is to win the cup. LOL.
The danger is that you can wind up a team that is capped out, remember Dave Scott says he wants to be a cap team, and not be good enough. Not have the flexibility needed. Then as your younger players get better and you went out and spent a bunch of cap space, now you have to make choices and you get in a spot.
The Flyers window is not open yet. Their defense and goaltending is still very young. I think it's a mistake to try and escalate the time line. We'll see what Fletcher does. I'm going to be open minded about it. |

St. Louis gave up two first rounders for Schenn. I don't want to see the Flyers do that. |

I know there is a system in place that dictates what the compensation would be if a team offer-sheets & signs another teams restricted FA. But is there any rule in place that prevents the teams from working out trade involving that RFA? Essentially circumventing the established RFA compensation process. |

well then if their window is not open then you move players who dont fit the timeline.
I just see 3 players in particular being wasted as this team tries to do whatever it is they are doing. 3 players you can build around. Waiting for the cavalry to come may end up burning you. Just seems like this team is going in circles with no real results at the nhl level.
i imagine soon some of the entry level deals will also expire in the next year or 2. so that will effect the cap as well.

Of all of the Canidates, AV clearly has the best record of accomplishment. They say he doesn’t like to play young players, but he really wouldn’t have a choice with the Flyers. He’s the butt kicker I think this group needs. He’s the current coach for team Canada, so I’m not sure how that would effect his immediate availability. But I’ll put my vote in his column |

Trading for a player that is a RFA is not circumventing the compensation process. There is no process without an OS being offered and signed by the player. It's a simple hockey trade. |

Speed yes but talent not so much. Since it appears they want to keep G at wing, a short term #2 C would be nice until Patrick breaks out. Aside from that they just need another winger
JVR - 2nd line C - Giroux
Lindblom - Coots - Voracek
? - NoPa - Konecny
Raffl - Laughton - Hartman
That 2nd line worked, last season. that means you can either play a 7 mill JVR on the 3rd line and grab a star player or grab a speedy LW |

I believe the two teams can work out a trade during the match period after the offersheet has been signed. |

Ok, thanks. So if we traded for another teams RFA, then they would just become our RFA. Is that right?
It's a reach, but the player I had in mind is William Karlsson. He'll be a RFA, made $5.25M this season. 24 goals, 56 points. I'm sure Vegas would like to keep him, but is it telling that they've handed out several pretty big contract extensions in the past year and he was not one of them?
He'd be a great 2C, and his style fits what we lack. Ghost plus picks for him. |

I do think they're on the right track, despite the setback this past season. I don't want the Flyers to overreact to this season but based on management's comments, I expect them to be aggressive this off season. |
