St. Louis gave up two first rounders for Schenn. I don't want to see the Flyers do that. - MJL
be that as it may, the Flyers greatly benefited on the second pick from the Blues missing the playoffs. That was entirely unexpected and the pick was realistically to be in the lower third of the first round. But the hockey gods smiled on the Flyers, St Louis choked and they ended up with a pick in the teens |

I do think they're on the right track, despite the setback this past season. I don't want the Flyers to overreact to this season but based on management's comments, I expect them to be aggressive this off season. - MJL
what is the timeline you have for them to be a cup contender?
their version of aggressive may mean an over reaction in your book. we shall see. |

Am I alone here when I say, I’m not against flipping our first round pick to make a splash? Keep in mind, I think it would benefit us down the road to draft a center with size but if we can get a real deal scorer, that kinda hard to pass up too. - SuperSchennBros
If we are drafting 10-13 I am with you. Would not trade a top 3 pick, I think I keep it. |

I don't think so. I think it was a 1st rounder for Schenn and the second first rounder was to take on the corpse of Lehtera...I think Schenn was only bringing back a 1st and later round pick, but the throw in of the salary of Lehtera made it two 1sts.
Edit: that was just looking at the trade overall, but I totally agree with you the Flyers should not be looking to do the same...Keep adding in the draft and look for targets that fit their needs... |

The timing is interesting. The panic move to oust Hextall was late November. Bias for action mandate expressed. Fletcher was brought in December 3. Upper level seats are going for $7. Lower bowl $25. They hired this woman from Washington to report directly to Dave Scott on the business side of Wells Fargo operations december 10. Many STH reporting during the season that their ticket prices have increased substantially but are re upping anyway. Fletcher has a quiet deadline and a mellow post season conference.
I guess Scott found his bias for action on the business side of things.

Flyers arent in the same situation. There is no need for us to dump a contract so if we wanted a young player like a Schenn, it would only cost us the 1 pick which is an acceptable loss at this point give the the fact that we pretty much have our future roster here |

What are you adding to get Doughty? - MJL
Giroux. Just Giroux |

We'll see what Fletcher does. I'm going to be open minded about it. - MJL

I really don't understand where the Ted Nolan love comes from. - Tomahawk
He is a great coach and I am not convinced he is getting a fair shake.
He is EXACTLY the type of guy to discipline the younger guys. If the vets don't buy in SEE YA.
And I LOVE DOUGHTY, kings might want to shake up the roster and he is EXACTLY the type of guy that would be a perennial allstar/fan favorite we need.
The fact they are worse off than us makes me think they would consider moving him. |

I agree he probably hasn't gotten a fair shake but there is nothing in his coaching record that tells me he's a great coach. |

OK. I'm just not seeing it.
I also don't see a coach out there that I'm sold on is the guy. I actually think Fletcher is in a tough spot with this one. Say he keeps Gordon and the team starts the year worse than this year? |

1) He hasn't won anything in the pros,
2) He's an bumhole (can't get along with his GMs, players),
3) His shelf-life is super short (read, screaming wears off fast),
4) He's managed to miss the PO's w/ decently talented teams (can't get his players on the same page),
5) He is no hockey genius.
There's no room in the league for an old-school bumhole who's had 3 kicks at the can and couldn't do poop with them. Torts is a raging bumhole too, but he lucked into a Cup win in '04, so at least he can hang his hat on that.
I do think that being First Nations has made it harder for him to get his foot in the door, but the way he's acted once he's gotten jobs suggests that it's not the only reason his NHL career has gone nowhere. |

I think the Flyers are 2-3 years away from moving into that top tier of teams. That could be accelerated depending on how fast Hart, Patrick, Sanheim, Myers and Provorov advance. If Gostisbehere bounces back.

Perfectly fine opinion.
I still think you know what you are getting into, short shelf life is fine, and he preaches fundamentals.
Exactly what these mutts need right now as they are not ready to win anything. |

That's just the spin given. Taking on Lehtera just made the cap work for the Blues. I don't think that was worth a 1st round pick. Hextall wouldn't have traded him without the 2nd pick. In my opinion.

I get it, he is just my guy, he may be a jerk, I love his story and think he uses it to motivate.
I'd be fine with Hitchcock again too once we are better and he wears out his welcome in EDM.
Hitchcock may be the best journeyman coach ever. |

There is no information to support either opinion. That Nolan is a great coach, which he is not or that LA is willing to move Doughty.

Here's the situation in my book. The season is ended. If you're not convinced right now that the current coach is the right coach, then you should move on and get a new coach.
