you have to admit some of that preaching fell on deaf ears |

Forgot about him..
Wasnt that one goal a way a function of a really hot goalie that year for the Sens? - opeth_pa
Most teams that make Cup runs get strong goaltending. That is pretty much a given. |

Ted Nolan isnt the answer for examples of this look at his record. - opeth_pa
Bill Barber won a Jack Adams. His system was basically nothing more than "go play Flyers hockey". |

For sure. I posted about it all season. It was easy to look at goals scored against the Flyers and see how lacking they were in detail. I agree wholeheartedly with Gordon basically saying the best way to defend is to have to defend less but when you do defend, can't keep making the same mistakes over and over.

Yes. How’s Guy Boucher’s Playoff percentage? - Just5
Made it to Conference Finals twice losing to the team that won the Cup both times. 22-15 in playoff games.
Quenneville was the only candidate that would have been a slam dunk. Let's be honest regardless of who they hire there will be a large faction of fans that won't like it. |

It means they were excellent at some point is what I was trying to say.
That means, joke or not, Jim Carey was really good. It's a shame he could never recapture it.

True but good goaltending is also down to good defensive positioning and excellent possession game of forwards |

A fair point but we all know those Leighton stories where a goalie gets hot and plays above his level.
It was Anderson that year so maybe it was just standard for him. |

Fingers and toes crossed for this!
Remember, not only do we win a great pick if in top 3...
But that is a great asset to add to whatever Fletcher does, right???
EDIT still want Marner. Didn't know we could trade if offer sheet is made....
What would that offer look like?
Jake+Frost+future 1st? Which gives the Leafs immediate help in Jake plus whatever Frost and the pick becomes? |

For sure. To win a cup you have to do the things you bring up. It doesn't matter how good your goaltending is, if you routinely have breakdowns that cause your goalie to be hung out to dry you have no chance. We see that from the Flyers far too often. |

if i'm the Leafs, Voracek, Frost, and a 1st still isn't enough. if they are going to take on Jake's contract why wouldn't they just sign Marner? They have Gardiner coming off the books and young guys like Dermott and Sandin ready to take the next step. If they end up in any sort of serious cap problems they could move someone like Nylander and Kadri and still be fine. |

Anderson is a far superior goaltender to Leighton. Anderson has never really played on good teams. Leighton is a career journeyman. If you look at the series against Montreal when he had three shutouts the Flyers kept the Habs on the perimeter. Leighton wasn't facing a lot of high quality scoring chances. Sure he did a great job limiting soft goals. When the FLyers got to the SCF and faced a team far superior team to Montreal Leighton was exposed. |

Agreed. No way the Leafs would want Jake and there's a long list of players they would move before Marner to make cap room. |

I'm puzzled when I read some of the trade offers made on here. It doesn't seem like they're given much thought. What is the reason why the Leafs would be looking to trade Marner?

The obvious guy for them to move is Marleau. They'll find a team to take him and give up another asset.

I just see more and more a lack of understanding of what players teams trade in the situation they're in and what players they keep and build around. They're not going to trade their 21 year old star player because they have some cap issues. Just not going to happen.

stand pat at 10th-13th overall unless there is a great offer on the table, take one of Krebs, Newhook, Byram, Suzuki, or Kaliyev(pure sniper btw).
Newhook is my guy though. I think he's going to be a good one. Could be considered a reach at our draft position but it's something i'd be willing to risk. |
