Im surprised Botts didn't mention it once in his press conference. It's their biggest issue IMO - Sabresfan-365
yes it is |

I have no faith in either goalie we have moving forward. - SABRES 89
I would guess the hope is they manage for a year and hopefully UPL is ready to step in 21-22 but that might be pushing it. |

As the season went along he seemed to wander further and further away from the crease. - Der Kaiser
Agreed, began fighting the puck a lot more too. |

I'll take two more 20 goal scorers over two new goalies |

I'd say Ullmark is certainly not a starter. Do we think he's a capable back up at this point though?
Hutton is a backup as well, that's our problem. At best we have two back ups. |

Theme of the off season should be the #2
Draft #2 overall
Hire 2 new coaches (HC, PP coach)
Get rid of at least 2 of the "dead weight" folks
Perma-call up 2 of the guys in Roch
Find 2 new goalies (admittedly bullish on UPL so that may be 1 there)
I honestly believe that alone makes them a playoff contender. At least till the deadline |

I hated him.
Super nice guy though.
Steve Montador too.
Again only the defensemen UFA’s worked out. - dadeadhead
Was Teppo not a UFA? Cap Friendly doesn't have the details and I'm too lazy to troll for the info. But he definitely wasn't traded in season. |

If Mittelstadt is as good as everyone thinks he is that should take care of itself next year. |

I honestly don't like either for this team, even as a back up.
I think some of Ullmarks decisions are major head scratchers.
Hutton is best suited for a team that can shelter him, not one that wants the blue line to be active offensively.

The fact that his stick is never on the ice is infuriating as well. |

If Skinner walks, Mittelstadt might have to pot 80g next year |

I think the only way he walks is if Botts is sure he's got a more cost friendly plan B.

Sobriety?
Hutton outside of 30 games with the tightest blue line in the nhl has been a meh back up.
Ullmarks a failed project. They need at least 1 new goalie. Enough to buy time for UPL - Sabresfan-365
how is ullmark a failed project?

I stand correct.
You would think after like 18 years for Tanking I would get rooting for teams to lose, lol |

It's a little early, he'd have a better sense after the seasons over but with Housley canned the pressure is on him to deliver. |

our D sucked
esp dec 1st on
you put any goalie on this team
bishop
anderson
kid in tampa
ducks goalie
hasek in his prime
roy
brodeur
they all have their worst GAA and save% ever
shore up the D, goalie is a non issue for regular season |

Measuring their success through GAA isn't fair to them anyways.
Our D is about the same as it was last year, the goaltending is a lot worse.
Jacob Markstrom had the same kind of blue line in front of him with the nucks and his goals saved above average was just under 4.
Hutton was bottom 5 in high danger save percentage. We don't even need someone who is good, just someone who isn't bottom 10.
If you are going to roll a D-core that is geared offensively, they are going to have regular breakdowns defensively. Thats where you need your goalie to be just good enough to keep them in it. Don't need them to Hasek, just not complete swiss cheese.

if our d is the same, and our goalies are worse, last season the 3 goalies allowed 256 goals
this season 251 goals
I am not counting empty netters
our d sucks, it really does
goalies bailed them out the first few months, and cooled off december 1st on
hell hutton was a potential all star goalie december 1st
goalies are never as bad as the mass makes them out to be, and never as good (few exceptions hasek, roy, brodeur) |

side note, does your fancy stats include the quality of the shooters?
I mean if the leafs, bolts and bruins are firing these quality shots, pretty sure it's more effective then the sharks, ducks, kings etc
If I am a betting man, pretty sure the bottom teams in our division had the hardest schedule in the nhl, playing the bruins, leafs, and bolts the most and then facing the islanders, pens, blue jackets, caps, canes and habs
vs strength of schedule from the teams out west |

That dumbass never has a plan B. Total putz. They need to get someone in that position that has a little jam. They had one. Got rid of him like he was a 2nd line center.
Checks Gallup poll. Yup, still numero uno. |
