I hope the Sabres land Todd McClellan...Not being able to win that 3rd round series seems like a good problem to have at this point.
Plus he's got a hell of a scowl.

DON'T hire Todd McLellan !!!! If Buffalo does, you WILL see marked improvement for about 4 years and you WON'T get past the 2nd round of any playoff series. Check the record. By all means, let LA have him - Bobbo

BREAKING: Skinner's agent had a meeting with Botts today. The agent wanted 9.25 mil per year. Botts countered with 8 mil. The agent said fine, 9.75 mil per year. Then Skinner's agent said pay him, buttmunch. |

Plenty of other teams with Cap issues too
Sharks & Jets come to mind - jdfitz77
Agreed but there seems to be more higher talent players available this year, coupled with a deep draft. Should be interesting.
Last year was Tavares and a few others, nothing major. JVR, Neal - not really.
The previous years, ehh not much. I get UFA's versus RFA's, but RFA's still need to be signed. I hope see a lot more big players moved and some large deals. Plus a lot of 4-5Mill players with 3-4 years left on their contract.
We have to hope for something..

If Mittelstat develops as we anticipate we are better situated at center than we are at wing.
Bring me Boldy. - Der Kaiser
Centers can always be wingers though. It doesn't work the other way around. |

Thanks Michael, nice article!
Like most have stated, Sabres should land a stud at 7, so if there is a year to fall from 5 back to 7th, this was the year. And with winning Dahlin last year, I'm quite pleased TBH.
In a past Blog, I posted my desired criteria for what attributes I would be looking for, mostly for forwards. Those were largely Mental and Character based;
-High Hockey IQ,
-Winner/Mentally Tough - performs on the big stage in critical situations,
-Leader/Positive Influence
-Tough/Fearless/Determined - goes to the dirty areas, wins battles along the board, driven to regain the puck when lost/turnover
...
along with skills
- fast release with accurate shot
- elite skater - another Dahlin, Skinner, Eichel type
I love what I read about Cozens, Boldy and Zegras...I'd be very happy with any of those three ... and satisfied with a couple others like Dach and Turcott(sp?) - IonSabres
So, you want the perfect player, got it.

I’d like to get a guy like Point as much as anyone
But is a team like Tampa gonna move Point?
Or will they just move Kilorn + Palat instead?
Or give up a guy like Miller if someone takes Callahan?
Teams will look to keep their best guys,
not trade them away |

I believe the draft and off season will center around Tampa and Toronto.
Both teams have cap issues and very desirable players. I think they move pieces, salaries and plenty of good picks get shuffled. Both teams need budget defensive players.
That is what I will be looking at. - Tragically Buffalo
For risto I would think Tampa or Edmonton. We wouldn’t make a trade like that with the leafs. Edmonton needs to some big changes, need D and are tight on cap |

What have the sharks done without him pretty much same results... The Oilers are a ever lasting oil spill. |

I think being last is our new Stanley Cup. Just fits us better.
Tank every year.
Seriously, is it harder to win the cup, or finish last with high end talent? |

The problem with the theory about tanking for Alexis played out exactly the way it should last night. You can't purposely tank for one player because it is all random luck. Every year, some team that just misses the playoffs moves up to the top 3. I am done with tanking. Let's put the best possible team on the ice and let the chips fall where they do. If we finish 9th in our conference, so be it. At least that means we had a really competitive team and it likely speaks well for the following season.

I almost never post, but read occasionally when looking for Sabres’ news in the land of the Avs.
Are there any college free agents who the Sabres are rumored to be targeting? Seems like they could sell having chance to play at NHL level pretty quickly as a reason to sign with Sabres.
Some that seems interesting options:
-Nico Sturm, Center, Junior(‘95), Clarkson
-Taro Hirose, Left Wing, Junior(‘96), Michigan State
-Max Veronneau, Right Wing, Senior(‘95), Princeton
I’m sure there are many others that could help this organization.
(I’ll end this now before I accidentally mention ROR or Sam and start 10 pages of repeating the never ending arguments that make HB painful at times). |

So I turned on my TV and whoa, Tampa and Columbus are playing!
Did you guys know that some teams still play beyond the first week of April?
Do they do this EVERY year? |
