based on muliple mocks, we'll have a crack at the following
Podkolzin, Vasily
Byram, Bowen
Cozens, Dylan
Dach, Kirby
Turcotte, Alex
Zegras, Trevor
Krebs, Peyton
Boldy, Matthew
Each offers something a little different, all with some serious skill. Landing 7th isn't too bad when picks 3-9 are all similarly talented. |

If Byram falls great, if not Turcotte, Zebras or Boldy |

When you go back and read some scouting reports for guys drafted in this area in the past and compare them to this grouping, you notice there's a lot of high end skill that took a few years to generate. Mark Scheifele is Kirby Dach. |

I could live with that |

most are projecting byram to Detroit, which makes a lot of sense |

I love the idea of Byram, but finding a Horvat/Kopitar, which seems pretty available here, would be huge for this team. Never again would you need a Sobotka excuse. |

If Mittelstat develops as we anticipate we are better situated at center than we are at wing.
Bring me Boldy. |

Can't argue that we don't need a great winger. But finding a Horvat/Kopitar would be wondrous for this team. |

Doubt any of those guys are going anywhere. Unless anyone totally poops their pants at the U18, that grouping will stay the same. Maybe one of the Euros creep into the top 10.
There's always wildcards too. Good thing the Bruins got Zach Senyshyn. |

Thanks Michael, nice article!
Like most have stated, Sabres should land a stud at 7, so if there is a year to fall from 5 back to 7th, this was the year. And with winning Dahlin last year, I'm quite pleased TBH.
In a past Blog, I posted my desired criteria for what attributes I would be looking for, mostly for forwards. Those were largely Mental and Character based;
-High Hockey IQ,
-Winner/Mentally Tough - performs on the big stage in critical situations,
-Leader/Positive Influence
-Tough/Fearless/Determined - goes to the dirty areas, wins battles along the board, driven to regain the puck when lost/turnover
...
along with skills
- fast release with accurate shot
- elite skater - another Dahlin, Skinner, Eichel type
I love what I read about Cozens, Boldy and Zegras...I'd be very happy with any of those three ... and satisfied with a couple others like Dach and Turcott(sp?) |

Who we passing next year?
Certainly Ottawa will be behind us
Most likely Detroit
New York was right there with us and got way better adding kaako
New Jersey is adding Hughes and Hall will be back healthy.
Another long season for us ... :/

Source close to Todd McLellan says the free-agent coach has not yet made his decision. Remains very much interested in both the L.A. and Buffalo opportunities. McLellan slated to meet with Sabres brass today. Kings, meanwhile, remain hopeful they can get him. We'll see. |

Tank for Alexis Lafreniere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kidding actually.
Boots has work to do, not sure why he is sitting on his ass today.
Fly to see Skinner and get it done already |

thx...they could conceivably move down a couple spots, if there was a willing trade partner, and land one of those three, or even Krebs

no that the sabres will be as good as them, but Pittsburgh has been struggling lately...and don't forget Columbus who barely sneaked into the playoffs...they pushed all their chips in and will probably still lose breadman and bob |

We aren't getting an NHL ready forward with the pick. Will basically get the center that falls if we're lucky.
No great coaching options available.
Skinner probably walking.
Not much coming up in the pipeline.
Unsure how this team can be anything but bottom 8 next year too. |

I thought Columbus. Pittsburgh still has a year or two left of playoff runs. |

Ya understandable. Lot of moves to make though. Not tons of cap room and no prospects ready to come up and be huge difference makers |
