If you’re a BPA guy, I’d be surprised if pick #40 is a Dman. IMO, D available at that point have skillsets/future projections that don’t differ all that much from guys we can take a chance on later. I’d rather lock in a few fwds who have a great chance to fit the build, then throw a handful of late D picks @ the wall & see what sticks down the road.

I realize I'm behind in the chat. But trading Markstrom next year could be the best decision. UFA to be, expansion coming. Can only protect 1 goalie. Hopefully he repeats this season. Unfortunately (cause he was so good this year) you gotta keep the younger goalie.

On Panarin i only say that as to kick his tires. If he’s open minded then rethink making that play for him. Walking away doesn’t hurt us & sends a message to other UFA’s we are serious if nothing else. The need for a LW is so great is my motivation.

The way I see it, there’s 2 major groups amongst this fanbase.

Group 1 thinks that the team isn’t far off from being a perennial playoff team and being a contender in 2-3 years is possible. They want Benning to be aggressive with trades/signings, etc to upgrade this roster.


Group 2 thinks the team is still just in the early stages of rebuilding, they don’t want any more 3+ year UFA contracts and would like to see Benning be patient. Maybe even take on a bad contract or 2 from other teams with the cap space freed up this summer.

Then there’s a smaller group of fans who seem to have a foot in each column.
