The Leafs and their fans should be furious

Kucherov isn't a repeat offender, though.

Why would Vegas trade McNabb or Miller when they are both signed to good deals, they play an important role on their team and do not have cap issues?

They also traded their best D prospect to get Stone, so why weaken their D more?

- PatShart

Sikura could be one guy to fill that role. He has the tools. I think he knows that he is not going to be a top 6 scorer and may embrace that 3/4 line guy who fills the energy/PK role. Entwhistle is who I want to see. Classic 200 foot 2 way player. Very interesting off season ahead. This team MUST learn to get out of this perimeter crap in the O zone and start attacking the net. That is obvious with all the playoff teams. They all go to the net. Constantly.
- z1990z

Agree on all points.

Sikura could be one of those players next season while Entwistle is likely at least a year away but still in that mold hopefully.

On your last point, attack in waves. Can’t do that from the perimeter. Drive the net constantly and relentlessly. Just hammer the opponent.

No but Backes was knocked into another realm. DOPS considers results of the hit. Which is beyond ludicrous.

They are going to need to unload 5 players at least The vultures should be circling.

Trying to be the glass half full guy here after another non playoff year. Maybe we need a couple of grizzled vets to run our 4th line. Hit/cycle/repeat!

Someone who’s way better than me with photo editing needs to put Stan’s mug on a vulture’s body.

And looking at their depth, why trade cap friendly guys from position of weakness?

They have Glass in the minors who is ready, Gusev from Russia as well - both forwards. They'd trade guys like Haula or Eakin if anything

- PatShart

I understand. Eakin and Haula at a combined 6.5M less the 2M for their replacements on ELC's net them 4.5M. Still have to move 4.5M. Do they have any young stud defenseman that could move up from the minors?

Reaves is probably gone. Eakin and Haula too as PatShart mentioned. Haula coming off knee surgery. What's the market for him?

Wonder if they may try to move a big salary like Stasny, 2 more years at 6.5M.

Still think one of their defenseman will be on the market.

2nd Edit - Stasny + for AA? Saves Vegas 2M and costs Hawks only 2M. Same term. Hawks get a pick or prospect?

Wow. Caroline's Ferland just landed what I think was a clean hit and everyone on tv is saying it was cheap.

Edit: he got booted for a "hit to the head."
I repeat, I did NOT see it that way.

Thats not right about qualifying offer situation tallon was out sick and left it up to bowman to handle it but in the end the responsibility falls on tallon. Tallon was good identifying talent and drafting but free agency was not good by overpaying. Not draft picks work out for gm there are misses.

How do you know Tallon was out sick and how do you know the qualifying offers were left for Bowman to do?

Yes, but it did nothing to further the "Dale, greatest GM ever, cause he played hockey at a high level" narrative, so it's just not useful.

It's a good trick to bring up a topic and then bark to a response that the topic is old news that shouldn't be discussed.

I liked reading both yours and ER’s posts about this. My take sort of combines your two thought processes:

At forward, explore upgrades at 3rd line center and 4th line wing with affordable deals at no more than 3 years. Whoever is drafted at #3 may have an impact, i.e. someone like Cozens is picked and makes the team. Anisimov’s fate with the team also is a factor. And guys like Sikura, Kubalik, and Kurashev are wild cards.

On the blueline, explore 1-2 reliable defenders who can eat minutes without being liabilities. Again, look for affordability and no more than 3 years. Gustafsson’s fate is a factor. And guys like Dahlstrom, Forsling, Koekkoek, Carlsson, and Gilbert are wild cards.

In net, explore a veteran like Ward who is willing to do a one year deal as a possible insurance policy if Crawford is questionable next season to play regularly. If Crawford is 100% healthy then stick with Delia and Forsberg as backup options.

Essentially, consider both paths of improving the roster internally and with affordable assets outside the organization. Elite talent isn’t necessarily the path especially if it hurts the cap and causes younger players to have to be let go, i.e. DeBrincat, Strome, Jokiharju, etc.

- AEL_Fox

Agree with you AEL. No big free agent expensive signings. Try to obtain 3 serviceable pieces including bottom 6 forwards and 2nd pair D for around 10M per year total.

Possible permutations
Forwards pick 2:
Kubalik 1M
Eakin 3.85M
Tanev sign for 3M
Sure there are more candidates

Defense pick 1:
McNabb 2.5M
Miller 3.75M
Chariot sign for 3M
Pesce/DeHaan 4.5M (Saad + involved in trade requiring the need for another forward or put AA at LW)
