Andrew Copp's an RFA. Maybe Stan can work a one-sided deal like the the Jets (then Thrashers) did for Buff and Ladd.
I think he'd look pretty good at 3C and should come in well under AA money. - HawkintheD
Copp would be a fantastic bottom 6 addition, add Tanev and the depth plus P.K. is significantly upgraded.

And i wonder what happens if the Lighting are a first round exit, Cooper will be gone, and very little cap wiggle room - BetweenTheDots
I'm not sure Cooper will be gone. |

Cooper signed a multi-year contract extension a couple of weeks ago.

I think they'd have to give Cooper another kick at the can but all the pressure would be on him and his core next year. Copper is being schooled by an Old School coach so far, can he find a way to win tonight? |

Avs just signed Cale Makar. His UMASS team lost in the finals of the Frozen Four yesterday and he signs on the dotted line immediately afterward. The timing would indicate he may be suiting up in the playoffs. Anxious to see him after all the hype. Heiskanen, taken the pick after Makar, has done pretty well for Dallas. |

Without Kucherov, maybe without Herman, maybe without Stralman. |

A lot of contract reasons why they wouldn’t want to play him - besides throwing him immediately into a high pressure situation on day one - burns a year off of his ELC, I think - and (if he makes the team starting next fall) he would need to be protected in the Seattle expansion draft. |

Yep, we'll see what happens. Kind of hope they do so by protecting him they would have to expose someone else - always good to potentially weaken an opponent. |

Wow that Leaf Bruins game was vicious. Loved it . Hope Bowman took note If the Hawks are making the playoffs next year they better add some toughness and meanness to the lineup . Think game may be swingin back a little to atougher brand of Hockey. - HamiltonHawk
The brand of hockey and the officiating changes every year at this time. This is what concerns me about the makeup of the current team as well as our prospects. Bowman needs to address this through free agency and trades. |

Sometimes teams dig a little deeper when they're misisng guys. Right now talent isn't missing on Tampa, hard work is. |

The Hawks won the cup in 2015 with a team that hit no one, didn't fight and had no powerplay. |

they won three cups without big time hitting or a great forecheck...
this myth that a team can't win unless they plow guys through the glass or take cheap shots all over the ice really gets old and is false...

Not sure but you have to play 10 or 11 games for the season to count as year 1 of the 3 year window related to the expansion draft. But yes, probably burns a year off the ELC.

It is interesting that now there are so many teams that have started to get stuck in the Cap muck similar to the one that caused the Ladd and Buff departures.
These teams will not be dealing from a strength.
I am liking Turcotte more and more. He also fits the faster new game and is thick skilled and confident and likes to work down low.
So the question becomes for the long term success of this organization, when the Kane / Toews deals end in 2023, which prospect at three will most likely be able to fulfill top line (s) success, and best with the younger pieces we see are beginning to entrench themselves?
I have my top two round mock profiles up and the true sleeper mike be this big Russian defenseman named Daniil Misyul - he is tough, fluid and glides the attack zone causing havoc and looks. |

The 2010 team had some physical players, less so the 2013 team but the 2015 team were lightweights compared to the the other two. One thing I disagree with is that all three teams were great forechecking teams in a less traditional way, they did it with speed not brawn.
I like physical hockey don't get me wrong, but a team doiesn't have to be tough physically they just have to be tough to play through physical play like the 3 Hawk cup winners were |

Hawks had a few players who threw some hits in Shaw, Bickell, Frolik and Bolland, but they didn’t run all over the ice looking to put an opposing player in the second row.
If we’re being honest, Shaw was no choirboy but I don’t think any of those guys iinitiated hits looking to injure players.
For sure, they didn’t really have any pugilists and the PP sucked.
They did have players though that were willing to take a hit to make a play which I hope haunts Ryan Kesler to his grave. |

Paul, I agree the championships we won by strong forecheck speed and opportunistic scoring...did any of us NOT see them as the physical underdogs in most series all three times? |

The 2010 team could match up and play pretty much any style. The other teams were better than everyone skillwise and almost all the players cou;ld play through physical play. Unlike Toronto who have too many players unwilling to take hits to make plays. |
