The hell with a coach, get Skinner signed. That should be the number 1 priority, show him that he's important. |

Agreed but if he’s asking for 9m they should let him go then |

I know it's highly unlikely, but the leafs cap situation reminds of the hawks way back when.
Sharks used the offer sheet to force bowman to part ways with niemii (after the arbitration number came in), who i guess was there intended target.
I wonder if something similar can be done with Marner/Johnsson. Force the leafs to capitulate to whatever Marner's ask is, then when Johnsson gets his # from arb, leafs won't be able to sign him |

Looks like they have about 10M in space going into next year and they have 7 roster spots to fill including Marner. Very similar to Tampa. Might get interesting. |

I don't watch any Leafs games aside from when they play the Sabres, so:
A. How good is Johnsson?
B. How much is he going to get awarded?
C. I'd rather try that game for Kapanen?
D. Why can't Olofsson become a 20-20 player for the Sabres? |

Capfriendly has them at less than 10 adjusting for the cap being 83 mil. Kapanen is good too, but i single out Johnsson because of his arbitration rights.
There's a chance the leafs could get kapanen on a friendly-ish deal. There's almost no chance of that with Johnsson.
Alternatively if they're smart they'll package one of them with Zaitsev for a decent return so that they don't lose him for nothing and get the other two re-signed. |

I like him as a player, good speed and plays a skill game. He isn’t a game breaker but should be a 45-50 point winger. Did very well for his first full season in the league and is bound to get better. Would fit in well nice to Mitts and Reinhart. |

A. Top 6 forward on most teams, by next year thats even more likely (he'll be 25)
B. Hard to say now, but the leafs are tight against the cap. Even a reasonable # will be a bit much for them
C. I would too, but Kapanen doesn't have Arb rights, there's a chance a deal gets worked out there
D. He absolutely can, but what does that have anything to do with this? Even if Olofsson pans out, this team is short like 3 top 9 forwards. |

Decent is the best they can hope for in any deal that has Zaitsev as part of it? |

He and his contract are significantly worse than Bogosian. Im probably being optimistic. |

$3M? Less? More? Regarding Johnsson. |

Offer Skinner HC job. Pay him 5 mil.
Then offer him 4 mil as a player.
Boom. 9 mil for Jeff. |

I'd think more.
He'll get at least what Jenner got from CBJ when he had Arb rights (I think it's just under 4 mil? ) |

Is it smarter to ride out the contracts of players like that if you're 'stuck' with them if the alternative is to have to give something of decent value along with that player to another team?
I ask as that seems to be Botterill's philosophy. |

The Leafs would be franked.
Cam Atkinson has turned into a hell of a player, and wasn't there a time when he was 'gettable'? |

I'd say it depends on where your team is. For Botterill/Sabres I'd say so. After his 20th game in charge he knew the team was a few years away no matter what he did, so he can afford to see it out, especially since we were thin on assets.
The leafs window is now. If the contract is keeping them from making the move that puts them over the top, then you're probably better off biting that bullet now then missing out during your window to win. |

Definitely on the scenario dictating the path. I've seen many wanting to give up something good to get rid of Okposo, and I get that, but I'd rather ride his contract out and keep all the toys. |

Post more, read less. Hence standing pat and drafting 7th. The trade for Montour was a good hockey deal for the future. If he can swing another one for a young player with term involving the STL/SJS first rounder then I’m all for it if not don’t trade for the sake of bringing a vet that is not apart of our timeline. |
