Just no Sabre or Penguin connections, please. We've been fed too much of that recently, Bills and Sabres. - Lunaion
We could hire a former Bandit to coach the Sabres. Now that's innovative |

Yeah but he was Outscored by Kovalchuk last year and look how that's gone for Kovy.
Not saying he's bad by any stretch, just that KHL numbers are really hard to translate to the NHL. - BINGO!
Gotcha, was just wondering what he would bring to Vegas in the playoffs. Seems like(on paper) it could be a nice little addition if he clicks. But i wasn't sure how the KHL stats translated. |

the problem with Buffalo is they went out on a limb with housely and it killed them.. do they go down that road again? does Kim like him? - SabresFaninIndiana
I don't think anyone in the hockey world would say they went out on a limb with Housley.
It would be a solid marketing move to bring back one of the greatest defensemen ever to play for the franchise as its next head coach, but Florida will likely give ample competition for his services.
The good news here: Phil Housley is a legitimate head coaching candidate throughout the league and not just a feel-good story from the past.
Housley has been an assistant with the Nashville Predators since the 2013-14 season and has been racking up the rave reviews, coaching their defense over the years.
What Housley brings to the Sabres is a commitment to defense in the context of what defensemen should be doing in the NHL in 2017. And unless you have Sidney Crosby, usually you need a stout blueline to win in this league.
Botterill takes over a team having waited years for someone to give him a chance to prove his worth as a general manager. He should extend the same opportunity to Phil Housley as the next head coach of the Buffalo Sabres.
That all being from articles regarding the last coaching search from sources outside of Buffalo.
My top choices are Grönborg or Marc Crawford if Ottawa doesn't hire him. |

I have a system for you.
Play harder and smarter than the other team, clean up your own end and score more than the opposition.
It doesn't have to be reinventing the wheel here. - Powerslave
Apparently that system can’t be taught here |

? The Sabres?
Collectively, may be the dumbest group of players to lace them up.
Get a SC winning coach fired, can't play his system
Get a upcoming coach fired who helped direct the best D-core in the league to a SC appearence, can't play his system.
I'm stunned people still want AV as coach given several reports from multiple media that he isn't a developmental coach, but leans on his Vet' s at the expense of youngsters, reportedly is aloof with players and delegates responsibilities to the core players...the exact opposite of what is thought to be needed for a relatively young team that is going to get younger. When I read and listen to the reviews on AV I think of the worst traits of Nolan, Housley and Bylsma rolled into one. |

That's also pretty much verbatim what the Oiler's play-by-play guy said about McClellan when he was on the WGR morning show earlier this week. |

When can we put a little pressure on the PLAYERS to actually have some (frank)ing pride, work ethic and attention to detail?
Those two above named coaches have won a lot of games in this league. It's time the players respect that. |

It's a fair criticism of the players, if there's a coherent message being given to them. Reports are that Housley's d zone system was not at all clear, and Bylsma was obviously notorious for his over-complicated X's and O's |

I like this post, and agree that more ownership from the players is required.
However, I'm not convinced that either of these guys is the right choice.
I'd give them a chance with an open mind, just seems curious that their reputation of how they run their team is different than what the stated qualifications are. |

A great coach is someone who can get that out of players. It works both ways. |
