But a a good deal closer to most of those guys. I get what you're saying but we also have to remember he isn't a puck hogging sniper either. A few of these guys are shooters first and that just isn't Patrick's game.
I get it. He went 2nd overall and people want results. Give him some time. Honestly since we didn't even have any business picking 2nd that year I'm not too worked up over it. Frost may be our 2C in 2 or 3 years anyway and Patrick will be a fine 3C option. - hereticpride
There is still a chance for it to happen but I think its clear that while he can still develop into a very good player, he's not likely to become a star player. That's another 2nd overall pick for this team that's not going to be what his draft position suggested. |

Yeah, that's where I'm at with him.
If he stays, I think he'll be a nice complimentary middle-six forward, good net-front, serviceable 200-ft, probably will develop into a leader at some point.
They should be open to moving him if a trade comes along for a higher-ceiling kid or an established top player. He wouldn't be on my untouchable list. |

Not buying it. Been there done that with the college coaches. - PLindbergh31
At least Sandelin won a championship. Remember when you couldn't stop reminding everyone that Hakstol never won anything at the college level? |

You are leaving out something. Hakstol never won at a place where those before him, and after him have won. How do you explain this?
And we saw how Hakstol worked out here right? You see what a real coach is doing to the Penguins. Crosby did anything he wanted against the Flyers last year. He owned them. |

To me, it is much too early to know this. He still has star potential. No two players are exactly the same, and no two development curves are identical. A good offensive objective for Patrick would be 20 goals and 40+ points next season. We’ll see.

I agree with all of that pretty much but normally, you know by now if a player has that potential. The odds of Patrick becoming a star player at this point is pretty low. |

No. Wait til the Bruins bounce the Leafs again, and hire Babcock. |

You're drastically over selling. Provorov is a really good young defenseman but he is no where close to Norris trophy level. You're out of your mind if you think Provorov can get 8 X 8. - MJL
I think deal for 8 years worth 6 a year is perfect for him, 8 years for 48 mil total, 6 AAV, get it done |

Patrick is 20. He needs to develop confidence more than skills. Of course he is working towards consistency. I hope he plays every preseason game.

Patrick’s development will determine the Flyers future success. He needs to put it all together within the next two seasons. Always take steps. This season wasn’t much of a step. |

Off topic here, I did not think Kadri's retaliation on Debrusk was that bad, am i crazy? Yes, he got him in the head but he didn't take a baseball swing, it was a quick crosscheck. I just can't see how you could deem what he did more dangerous than Malkin swinging a stick at someone's head. |

There is no guarantee any of head coaches eliminated after the first round will be available. Personally, I am not going to think on it until they are.

True that we will know better in 2 years and even after a nice step next season, but most players have one early season like this one.

In my opinion, the retaliation was justified, because just prior to that, Debrusk had driven Marleau I believe into the stanchion. That series has been a physical one. I hope Toronto wins. I hate Boston with a passion. |

True. Unfortunately hindsight does no good and there wasn't a team in the league passing over him at 2.
Like I said I'd be more annoyed if we were dead last in the league that year and that's what we got. Even if you split the difference of us drafting at 2 or 13 I think he's far from a bust. |

Deliberately rode him into the stanchion, the crap Boston gets away with is laughable. |

The replay I saw was a bad camera angle, also not clear.

Confidence is part of it but more than anything he needs to move off of the perimeter and play in the dangerous areas of the ice, get himself in scoring lanes both with the puck and without. That's an issue with a number of players on this team. |

Idk why people are writing him off, he's 20. He can certainly still be a star player, he has the tools. He needs to be more consistent and play with confidence. Not every player can be Mcdavid/Mathews and set the league on fire. |

I agree, I have no beef with the pick they made. I still think he's going to be a very good player just not a star or top scorer in the league. Closer to 2C than 1C.
