There is actually.
It can be an effective way to build a roster for the future.
It is called a Cap dump for 1 stupid year to acquire better players that can play in the middle 6 for 5, 6. 7 years.
Take your blinders off, it IS one way to build the roster.
Previously I felt like you about him and cap dumps as I thought the Sabres were going to emerge from bottom feeder status.
Wrong, lol.
Here we are again!
There is way too much heavy lifting to accomplish for them to be a playoff team next year. Might as well be smart about it and use the tactic to help advance the rebuild. - IonSabres
If done right a one year cap dump isn't the worst thing. It basically comes down to them making it worth it for us. |

$6,088,981 - $8,118,641
1 First Round Pick
1 Second Round Pick
1 Third Round Pick
$8,118,642 - $10,148,302
2 First Round Picks
1 Second Round Pick
1 Third Round Pick
$10,148,303 - ∞
4 First Round Picks
If we could get our 2nd back from Carolina, I think an offer sheet could be more of an option. A lot of players $6-8m and $8-10m ranges that teams may not be able to or willing to match, and the cost is much more reasonable. |

That’s assuming you’re offering a 5 year deal at that price. Any more years and the total contract is still divided by 5 to come up with those figures.

his cap-hit isn't killing hem next season...maybe not even the season after...they still need to add to the pipeline or they can use that pick in another Montour-type trade...at this point, there's no need to throw that first-rounder away, imo - Michael Pachla
Assuming the cap continues to go up, his cap hit is less of an issue each year. |

I think it's better for us if Toronto pays that. Between him, Matthews, Nylander and JT, they'll have about $42 thousand to spend on defense for the next 6 years |

Unless the Sabres start working in some guys who can produce along with having a fair amount of physicality to their game, we will all be female doging in April like Toronto and Lightning fans.
The more I watch the playoffs the more I think our team is being built with both mentally soft and physically soft players. Perhaps fun to watch for 82 games, then fold under pressure and the intensity of playoff hockey.
Botts has a boatload of work to do - IonSabres
I completely agree. The modern thinking that you only need skill and not toughness gets proven wrong in the playoffs once again. |

We'd also be talking about next years picks, not this years.
Willing to bet offer sheets have been discussed more here today than they ever have in JB's office.

Okposo and SJS's 1st to Ottawa for Clarke MacArthur (LTIR).
Okposo has a real salary of 6/6/4/4 to finish out his contract, and Ottawa gets an extra first. |
