all Bennings fault, fire everyone, don't sign anybody, don't trade for anyone, what rebuild? stop rebuilding, draft and develop, dont develop too fast, wait its not fast enough, why isnt Gaudette Kesler, why isnt Jake Bertuzzi, why isnt OJ Lidstrom, Why did we take Kole Lind, trade that guy, no not that guy, the other guy, he sucks, they suck, you suck, - Brooks_Light
unpopular opinion - The track that Benning has us going today, with our current roster and current prospect pipline, is easily the most promising since he has taken over. (people will interpret that however they want)
another unpopular opinion - IF Benning spends major money and term trying to fill the holes that can and will eventually be filled from within, from good drafting and good developing and continuing the trend of making good trades (like leivo and pearson), I personally think he does more harm than good.
Having said all of that, the Canucks current roster and state of the team is easily the most promising since he took over, and people can take that statement however they want. |

This is funny. I've been seeing that commercial about fussy eating kids a lot lately and it reminds me of these guys.
"It's too crunchy", "it's not crunchy enough", "It touched the eggs", "The spaghetti is too long" etc...

Even more unpopular opinion:
even a potato as GM, who only made draft picks based on Brackett and co's suggestions and made zero trades would have this team in better position today compared to when Benning first took over just by default. It's kinda hard not to improve the prospect pool/young core when you finish at the bottom consistently.
When you take over a prospect pool headlined by Horvat/Shinkaruk/Gaunce/Corrado and finish near the bottom almost every year, there's nowhere to go but up |

im not disagreeing, and i am not a Benning supporter in the least. Fact still remains that the roster we ended up with at the end of this season, is probably 4 years behind where it should have been, is still better today than it ever has been. Again, i wholeheartedly disagree with his entire direction/philosophy of rebuild/retool/rewhateverhewantstocallit. I feel like our roster and pipeline today, is probably what it should have been a season or two after he took over. |

Boeser was not drafted anywhere near the bottom. Neither was Demko or Gaudette... or the up coming pick.
The only trade that was a significant setback was Gudbranson. Ya ya... death by a thousand cuts and all that other man bun whining... I wish the Canucks kept the couple of picks that were wasted... maybe they push this rebuild if they hit...or not... we cant assume that impact players were going to be selected... but this is hardly a counter argument. It's hyperbole mostly. |

Of course, but that's just pointing out the obvious lol.
It would actually be really damn difficult to not have this team in a better position today compared to then. You'd almost have to purposely try to sabotage the franchise to not have a better group of under 25 year old players after finishing near the bottom for 5 out of the past 6 seasons.

Not sure what exactly you're disagreeing with. I said that even a GM who sat on his hands for 5 years would fall ass backwards into a better prospect group than Horvat/Shink/Gaunce/Corrado. Not sure how anyone can disagree with that statement.
Nowhere did I mention anything about Gudbranson, or poor drafting, you're seeing things you want to see in my post

i added to my original comment. I know what you are saying, regarding *he had nowhere to go but up*, and im not disagreeing. I am just simply saying, what we had hoped for in a roster in 2014/2015 is probably what we are saying today, 5 years after the fact. The fact is, we starting to finally see some positive turnover and possitive drafting and signing. Again, im not endorsing Benning, cause I could not disagree more with how things have gone since he took over, but I do finally think the direction we are heading is finally a good one. |

For sure. Hopefully the next President/GM duo can build on that and correct some of the mistakes Benning has made |
