LE specifically. Those were actually pretty frugal contracts. Don't you know this board is for bashing JB? - neem55
MDZ was a healthy scratch basically all season, FA was paying Gagner to play for the Marlies so I think it goes deeper than LE for FA. |

I'm hoping what happened here is that FA gave him nice scolding after Benning went on radio last week talking about potentially being aggressive in free agency to fill weaknesses.
Either that or JB really does just change his mind every week - Nucker101
I remember on here when Benning signed MDZ Gagner the Russian and the Big 6'4 Dman most here were applauding the signings .
They all turned out bad but none the less. |

It's a rebuilding team. When he came in, he was meant to re-tool. the re-tool failed. The rebuild is going very well and has prduced very well. It's a bit of a bigger picture than wins/losses. - neem55
None of which has anything to do with spending money like a drunken sailor. Just simply stating I read, can’t remember where, Benning got an ear full from ownership due to his fruitless spending.
The last couple years has been a nice turnaround after three bad years of trying to be competitive. I’m encouraged by the past two years. |

It's a low bar, like when the dumbass in the family gets a C- on his math test instead of failing.
I'll pat JB on the head again this summer if he only overpays some guys for 2 years instead of 4+.
But seriously, I can live with him failing on those contracts, at least there's sign and trade potential with those deals compared to the 3+ year terms with NTC's. Those players are here to stay. |

Yup. MDZ was another, he managed to trade him and save them a bit of cash. Gagner for sure, but again. |

I think in the past Benning has been trying to play catch up. He came in on a bad hand dealt. He made some stupid moves . I think he is now at a level where he has things working in his favor so I want to see what he does this Summer.
He has expiring contracts , he has resources, and he has cap space.
Fans and media have an image about him . I have no idea whether he will do good or bad but at least this summer he has a level playing field. Like I said I want to see what he does. |

Fair enough, I'd be curious to know though, what would you be pleased with and what would make you upset?
Doesn't have to be specific with player names, just overall off-season planning. |

Just read Makar won the Hobey Baker, signed with the Avalanche. Be interested to see him play in the playoffs. |

First has to be the draft. If they take a RHD then it is one less thing they need to shop for this summer.
I want to see a successful trade this summer . This goes back to having cap space and going after teams that are cap challenged. Jake for Kapanen or something else I won't be specific.
A lesser trade to acquire a Dman like Miller or someone else.
We all agree that the bottom 6 are well taken care of so now find someone to play with the top 6. A guy like Kapanen would cost around 4 mil and could grow as a top 6 guy with this team.

If he plays one game this year he requires protection in the E draft |

Alright, I can get on board with that if JB can pull that off. I like Kapanen, but I do think his stats are a bit inflated due to Matthews.
And what would you be upset with that would cause you to turn on JB? |

6x6 for Ferland or Dzingle or any free agent for 6 years.
Edler with a NMC
Eriksson still on the Canucks next year.
Caulfield with our first pick

You don't have to be player specific, but what would cause you to be happy with JB and what would cause you to turn on him this summer?

I can see Kapanen as a top 6 winger albeit a 3rd wheel. Nothing wrong with that. His speed & tenacity would be welcome here. Given the opportunity he is better than Goldy which is an upgrade. My issue is at what price & can he truly be a fulltime top 6 winger. |

I think you'll be safe from these, except maybe Edler.
I'm against 3-6 year UFA contracts, I'd be okay with 3 years if the UFA is young-ish like Dzingel, but he's going to get more than that. |

I doubt they care, trying to win a playoff series not a meaningless last few games of the regular season. |

Happy would be to get us healthier through the season on D by getting RHD that lessens Tanevs minutes load.
To turn on him i’ve stated before this is the microscope year for him. The roster needs cleaning up & trades or demotions is what i am looking for. Last season seemed more like an experiment of auditions & it’s time for results. The D & LW is his mission to find at least one good improvement. |

Burkie on Friday had a really good take on Free Agents and Canadian teams. He said I have been the GM in three Canadian cities and it is shameful the disadvantage Canadian tams play behind. He stated the reason , but said when players were given partial NTC and had to list teams they did not want to be traded to almost 90% had the Canadian teams on the list for many reasons.
He said Canadian teams have to add years to UFA contract or more money .
I don't want to shop at all this year in Free Agency. Done with it |
