20 years old. I read it on CapFriendly and E Friedman confirmed - VANTEL
Yes Bobby Mac chimed in and said simply by signing his entry level deal he burned a year off the three and if he plays in one playoff game he needs protection. |

Burkie on Friday had a really good take on Free Agents and Canadian teams. He said I have been the GM in three Canadian cities and it is shameful the disadvantage Canadian tams play behind. He stated the reason , but said when players were given partial NTC and had to list teams they did not want to be traded to almost 90% had the Canadian teams on the list for many reasons.
He said Canadian teams have to add years to UFA contract or more money .
I don't want to shop at all this year in Free Agency. Done with it - VANTEL
Wow, good info
Just more reason for Canadian teams to draft and develop and make smart trades, stay away from free agency until the first 2 or 3 days pass and the UFA's become more reasonable.
Canadian teams are basically screwed in UFA unless it's a hometown kid. |

I don't think they care at all now. That may change in three years. Maybe not. |

Players such as JV & Gaudette are ready to take a bigger step up. Fringe players need to be pushed out by the kids. Our prospect pool is far from ready hence JB’s last UFA signings. Bottom 6 is fine but someone needs to be traded. Sutter. The top 6 needs 3 wingers. Pearson probably is one of these & was a good trade. The 2 others are not in the organization & come from a trade or UFA signing with one more being drafted & developed. That won’t be easy & is about a 2yr wait. I think something surprising is in store for us this next draft thru a trade. |

But seriously, I can live with him failing on those contracts, at least there's sign and trade potential with those deals compared to the 3+ year terms with NTC's. Those players are here to stay. - Nucker101
Some JB contracts that were pretty great value this past season are:
Bo 5.5 - Roussel 3 - Granlund 1.4 - Virtanen 1.2 - Stecher 2.3 - Beiga 825k -
Markstrom 3.6
Im interested to see what he does with Boeser, Demko, Motte, Leivo, Schenn, Edler,
Goldy, Granlund, Hutton - i could care less |

Under the radar today, but the Knights getting Gusev to sign is pretty big. He should be a legit top 6 forward if his game translates. |

He couldn’t draft to save his life but I miss Mike Gillis, he was a cunning savvy intelligent hockey man. |

Malhotra and Samuelsson. He mostly made trades.
Hamhuis/Garrison were hometown signings so I wouldn't count them. Rest of the the UFA signings were depth guys and offer sheet to Backes that was matched. If only we actually got Backes, he would've been massive in 2011. |

Torres, Malhotra, Sundin, Hamhuis, Garrison were all ufa’s when they signed in Vancouver and all played a big role in the team. |

Two decent signings not ground moving
Garrisson and Hamhuis both given NMC and extra years

Sundin horrible contract and lots of extra money to get him here.
Hamhuis and Malhotra both signed too long with NMC. So basically Burkie is right.

forgot about Torres, he was a good signing.
I don't consider Sundin good value at all considering he offered him that ridiculous 2 year/20 mil contract that Sundin himself said no thanks "I'll just take the 1 year"
Hamhuis/Garrison wanted to play here.
Demitra and Wellwood were 2 others I forgot about. |

Sundin was a huge mentor to the entire dressing room when he played, well worth the money they paid him. |

I liked the Malhotra, Samuelsson, Demitra, Wellwood and Torres deals.
Sundin for that 1 year was cool, but the fact that 2 years/20M was on the table is absurd so I can't say that I give Gillis credit for a "good signing" there.
Sturm sucked ass.
Not sure who else is missing from the UFA list.
I'd say Gillis batted over .500 on his significant UFA signings. He found a couple of cheap 1 year wonders like Stanton and Santorelli too.
The issues were his drafting, his trades made post-2011, and some of his re-signings. |

Those guys all added depth to the roster, something that’s eluded Benning thus far. |

Ah mentorship. My favorite word. Canucks had mentors for the mentors.
Sundin had one good game and that was the OT game against the Leafs. He sucked every other game. |

He was good in the playoffs, 8 points in 8 games. But yeah, he joined the team too late into the season and was a bit underwhelming during the regular season(56-58 point pace isn't too bad though). |

He was fine, for being 38 years old and missing half the year he still had 28 points in 40 games. |
