I also think that there will be PLENTY of opportunity for JBotts to snag some really good players on teams that are really up against the cap for next year.
Pittsburgh
Toronto
Las Vegas
Florida (if they intend on signing Bread Man.. )
these teams are all up against the cap and need to sign Key RFA's for big money. they will all have to shed salary of which we have a good amount of.
i think if we lose out on Skinner we can replace his production... I really like Skinner too... - hehateme
FL moved Bjugstad along with McCann to free up room. They have some deals expiring and will get rid of Reimer's contract somehow. They may be able to make it work without having to trade Hoffman, idk. If Pitt is up against cap, Sabres should see about McCann. I think he's RFA after the Pens lose 1 more to NYI. He's improved since coming to FL, was even used killing penalties. I think he still has more ceiling. Not sure what his cap hit is, or how much of a raise he will get, but McCann could definitely help Buffalo's middle six.
Bjugstad was the whipping boy for many in FL, opinions vary widely on him. Even his fans would agree that Nick is overpaid, but he might be worth a look from Buffalo.
Oh, I forgot to add; Pysyk might be available |

if he wanted out, there is no chance he is going to that event with teammates - homiedclown

Want to know what I think of Skinner??
Honestly...If he wants 8 years, Im not going over 8m. Id even give him 9m over 5 or 6 years..
one of the other.
8y - 64m
or
6y - 54m
Take one or leave them... - RippedFuel
This is pretty spot on actually
This has been your best post IMO on the Skinner situation!
If he wants the full 8 years he doesn't get more than $8 million per year
If he wants more money he gets less years.
I like it

I am not sure Bethpage plays to his strength anymore with his tee shots but man does he sure know how to navigate Pebble Beach... |

I'm all about fun and new. Don't get me wrong. But no one knows how any of these candidates will actually perform. Just find me a guy that fit Botterill's conditions. DGAF who it is. - TheSabresTaco
Do we want to go with with Botterill's vision though ? This is a guy that traded a very good player for Sobotka, Berglund, and Tage. Montour trade aside, I can't forgive the idiocy of the ROR trade. |

Tiger is the reason there are the Speiths, the Fowlers, and so on
Tiger Woods is the most polarizing athlete of the last 2 decades. He made golf cool.
I don't know if he will break Jack's record of 18 majors, but if last weekend was any indication, he still has another 2-3 years of being the player who he once was.
Say what you want about his personal life, but to go through all the back surgeries and be able to play golf at that kind of level...it was great to see and it was must see TV, at least for me anyway. |

"We’re open to anything,” Botterill replied. “You’re certainly looking for someone who has command of the room… that presence in the room. We have skill. We need to continue to develop that within our organization, bring some more in. We want to play a fast, uptempo style. We want to get our defencemen up in the play…. But it’s, as much as we want to play that offensive game, it’s having a little more structure defensively. That’s a big area where we can have improvement there.”
He added the internal debate is not about experience.
“We’re looking at someone who has that communicative ability, has that accountability, has that presence. That’s why we’re going to be looking at all different options.”
It's a solid vision I think we can all agree with, ROR trade aside. Not just "I'm looking for a drunk maniac. Hockey experience not required." |

I was at Monday's practice round, it was incredible.
Only caught a glimpse of Tiger on the range but all of the tournament people I talked to said there was something about how he was practicing and hitting the ball, it was almost like they knew he was going to win it. |

He stated publicly a bunch of traits he wants in a coach. They're all common sense. He's learned what not to get after seeing Housley work.
You have to agree the ROR trade was made under extenuating circumstances. The return has been underwhelming at best. Sobotka was always a clear throwin, and Berglund was expected to be protection for CM and along the course of his contract, a 3C. That bombed out. In hindsight, TT was hardly a surprise based on his past work. Still perplexes me how he wasn't sent down in November. Then there's 2 picks.
Clearly there was a problem with team dynamics coupled with his contract. So be it. The Sheary and Skinner trades were steals..
So yes, for now, we don't have a choice than to go with Bott's vision, but there isn't enough material, nor has there been enough time, to really make a judgement on his work. All I know is that this summer needs to be yuge for him. |

I hope they resign him to be honest I don't care what they pay. not like my tickets will go down in price and where you going to find a 30+ goal scorer who ain't gonna cost you an arm and a leg. After watching him play he never quit and his drought was more of puck unluck. He hit posts and had just misses but that will happen to a real goal scorer. Not like he was hitting to goalie in the chest like half this team does. |

Just don't (frank) up the cap. He won't reasonably be able to, and he won't ever get paid more than Jack, or Mark Stone for that matter. Like JCrag I think said, I'll get rid of a Zemgus to fit him in. |

I think it's more about what we gave up for him vs him being a superstar.

He's no barn burner, but he's a middle 6 depth player who provides some nice modern NHL elements to his game, and is capable of 50 points. With better center depth, I don't think 40-50 should be a problem for him. This is a guy who was worth a 4th round pick with a 2.2M, 2 yr cap dump, with 1 year of forced rostering.
The depth at the LW position was nil. He served a nice, very cheap fill in. Remember, the condition of the pick was a 3rd if he hit 20g/40pts. This was essentially his expectations, and he hit 34, which isn't too far off.
You're right, he is 'just a guy', but his services came dirt floor cheap. |
