No one should want to pick a fight with Ovie
- Just5

C’mon, he fought a rookie Russian with no experience fighting at the NHL level. I like Ovi, but he never fights guys capable of hammering him. He’s a selective fighter for good reason.

Seems like you like the direction they’ve taken. All it took for you was for the GM to sit on his hands at the deadline and hire a coach at the top of the retread pile.
- Just5

You're making an assumption and dancing around the issue. Here is the difference between us. I can elaborate on why I like the hire rather than making an unfounded judgement. You won't elaborate on how teams have played under Vigneault because you just don't know.

I am pleased with the hire. The last thing I want is another college "reach", or a guy who gets blown out in the first round with a loaded team that gets upset and suddenly becomes available or a "promising" AHL coach. No learning on the job.

This team has a specific window to be molded/melded and the only job is to win, and not sit around a campfire during the off season man bonding for a decade.

With as many teams as there are now, there are no coaches buried in the minors like a certain guy nicknamed the Fog. More jobs, easier promotion, plus Europe and other less stressful positions..

A coach who got both franchises he coached to the finals is a retread pile coach? Who exactly did you want then?

Honestly, with remaining names being floated out there after Quenneville got hired, Vigneault has the best resume and track record. The Flyers I believe got a good hire and not someone that could be viewed as a reach.

Now that Alan Vigneault is officially the head coach. Why not reward Scott Gordon with Lappy’s spot. The PK seemed to have changed under Gordon. Keep Rick Wilson, to see if he’s as good a defensive coach as we were sold on.

We have a number one goalie, we just need a back up. I personally think we should role with what we have one defense. Make a splash for a scorer and upgrade the bottom six. Plus we need to become bigger, tougher and more gritty.

Ahh the ole retread line. Like no coach who has been fired from another team has gone on to win a cup. But hey, in every league getting that upcoming progressive, “out of the box” thinker is in vogue. And every fan eats it up like it’s the new gospel to winning and somehow makes their team smart.... where more often then not they fail miserably.

Got to let AV pick his own team. Gordon will be fine no I bet he returns to the phantoms. This is a good day for the Flyers, now let’s see some RFA contracts.

Aren't there only 2 coaches to win a stanley cup with two different teams? So for people to want a cup winner, history shows it doesn't really work that way.

I like the Vingeault hire. He brings established resume. I think he will help patrick kind of like when he helped develop guys like Kesler and the sedins.

Just5, are you just as miserable to hang out with in real life as you are on hockey buzz? If you hate everything this team does, then go root for another team. Jeez AV hasn't even been coach for 24 hours and you're already whining like a preteen girl who doesn't get a purse she really wants. For God's sake, even the clown was being positive yesterday. If it's a schtick that you're doing, it's not funny anymore. If it's just who you are, then I am sorry for you.

AV will command the room, he will get the respect of vets, the young players also. When with the Rangers he had a team that played fast, I like that....

they needed a coach who could come in and add credibilty, AV does that...

With Vingeault in charge now I wonder if someone like Hayes becomes a target over maybe guys like Panarin or Duchene if they play in FA

A big factor in Hayes will be if he enjoyed playing under AV

Why not Hayes and Duchene if Voracek is moved. Now that AV is coach I'm not concerned about moving Ghost or Voracek as much. But I think I would still prefer to see Voracek moved if there is a good return and can fill the hole with Duchene.

Here is the simple truth. None of us know how Vigneault is going to work out. What we do know, is that the Flyers hired a coach who is better, has more experience, and is more proven as a NHL coach then the previous two coaches who coached the team last season.

And Mjl won’t state his opinions because once he does it can be picked apart. Which is all he ever does to others in these threads. “I won’t tell you what I think until you tell me what you think”

This thread used to get at least 6 hundred posts each day until a lot of posters realized that the hfboards have an ignore function that for posters like Mjl.

Agree 100%, as the GM brought in his own coach who has a history of NHL success which I believe Hextall should have done. Moving on, I still think Fletcher has to be aggressive via trade and a UFA addition. Two or three new pieces and an experienced coach will set this team up nicely for next year with no excuses for not making the playoffs

It is a truth.

Vingeault has had more NHL success then both previous coaches.

Well... Tampa may be looking to make some changes. McDonagh maybe? I could take McDonagh and Johnson off their hands for them for Ghost, Lindblom, Rubtsov, 2019 1st. And sign Hayes.

I'd rather keep Gostisbehere, Lindblom and the 1st round pick.
