You said it was the truth not opinion - Shrike
Generally your right, MJL does not post opinions, just critiques others ideas. Much like a politician. But you just happened to say this after the 1 time he has an original thought. |

In my opinion, it is the truth.

I'd rather keep Gostisbehere, Lindblom and the 1st round pick. - MJL
Yeah. He just re signed there. And even if they are bumped they can compete again next year with the roster they have and some tweaks.
If they need to move money they can move a guy like Tyler Johnson. |

I could take McDonagh and Johnson off their hands for them for Ghost, Lindblom, Rubtsov, 2019 1st. - youarewrong

This team lacks an identity. It will be up to the GM and coach to create one asap imo; whatever that identity may be.
physical hockey is still important as shown by the playoffs. soft and easy teams to play against will not win anything. |

Would this work?
To Tampa: MacDonald
To Philadelphia: Callahan
Reason being both guys are kind of out of favor for their own teams. Tampa has 4 defenders that will be FA and maybe MacDonald can give them some depth as a 3rd pair guy and on last year of deal.
Callahan isn't the same guy but played under Vingeault so brings some familiarity to the system. Also he brings some leadership and could probably help the PK. He is also on last year of deal.
Callahan could slot into a 3rd line role with Patrick if the Flyers bring in a 2nd line center.

And Mjl won’t state his opinions because once he does it can be picked apart. Which is all he ever does to others in these threads. “I won’t tell you what I think until you tell me what you think”
This thread used to get at least 6 hundred posts each day until a lot of posters realized that the hfboards have an ignore function that for posters like Mjl. - Shrike
then go to hf boards then. the pansies who leave crack me up. its a message board get over yourself. |

Callahan is a 4th line player at this point of his career, not a 3rd line player. He would provide leadership but I don't see that being a move that moves the needle. |

Well... Tampa may be looking to make some changes. McDonagh maybe? I could take McDonagh and Johnson off their hands for them for Ghost, Lindblom, Rubtsov, 2019 1st. And sign Hayes.

I know it wouldn't move the needle.
Even if just a 4th line player maybe that moves one of Hartman or Laughton to a 3rd line wing.
I do think some leadership is needed. Not sure if Callahan is a more vocal type but Giroux has said or it was stated he isn't one of your more vocal types. He is more a go out and lead by example.

Also I didn't realize but Alexander Edler is a UFA. Played under Vingeault. Could he be an option as a top 4 vet guy? Coming of a 5 mil cap hit and 32 years old. |

Nothing is more overrated in sports than vocal leadership. People watch too many movies. |

That aspect has a very short shelf life and you can only go to that well so many times. The best form of leadership is to simply be a good team. |

It's especially hard to be vocal when you're a drag on the ice (or out of the lineup completely), like Callahan is. |

Seems like you like the direction they’ve taken. All it took for you was for the GM to sit on his hands at the deadline and hire a coach at the top of the retread pile. - Just5
Couldn't Q be considered a retread too? Who would have your preferred the Flyers hire? |

If I'm taking minutes away from Myers, Sanheim, and possibly Morin and/or Ghost I would want a top pairing vet defenseman, not a middle pairing vet defenseman. Gudas is your middle pairing vet defenseman. |
