I'd settle for more puck-discipline and compete. - Tomahawk
bottom line is you need a little of it all obviously. flyers just been way to easy to play against the last 6/7 years. embarrassing really
Well the compete level is an interesting take. That's something you have or you don't imo. How would you address that issue?
just watching these playoffs compared to regular season is like night and day. soft teams dont cut it. |

Pittsburgh is on an obvious decline. Columbus who knows with the UFA situation. NY islanders are smoke and mirrors imo, just great coaching. Devils and rangers are a few years away from being competitive. Caps are going to have cap issues, pun intended. Carolina is a crap team that got lucky.
The flyers have the talent and a few offseason moves from being a top 3 in the metro with legit SC potential. And maybe in a few years it will go from SC potential to SC favorites. - youarewrong
Carolina is not a crap team by any stretch. You dont win 40+ games in an NHL season by luck. Carolina walloped the defending SC champs 5-0 last night and are still in the series. Your lack of attention to their team does not make them a poop team |

I'm okay with the hire. Seems like a logical choice after they missed out on Q. After Hak, I assumed there was no way they were going to go with another unknown.
A lot of the initial negative responses posted to HB from Flyers & non-Flyers fans were that AV doesn't do well with young players. I am not familiar with any details of this opinion. Some Rangers fans seemed to feel strongly about this issue. Can anyone provide some specific instances/players that AV had issues with or handled poorly? Thanks |

I dont have a lack of attention to their team. The have a very good defense and mediocre offense. Their goaltending is terrible. |

If I'm taking minutes away from Myers, Sanheim, and possibly Morin and/or Ghost I would want a top pairing vet defenseman, not a middle pairing vet defenseman. Gudas is your middle pairing vet defenseman. - youarewrong
He had 10 goals, 24 assists in 56 games while playing an average ice time of 24 minutes a night.
6'3'', 212lbs.
Seems like a legit top 4 to me.

what about toughness and physicality? - daryl stanley
not important...LOL....just see what CLB is doing to Tbay. Having players that make the other teams players uncomfortable to play against wins hockey.

Yes he does. I never said he wasn't a top 4. I said if I'm taking minutes from our young guys it has to be for a top 2 defenseman, not a top 4 defenseman. |

You don't need big physical players to play physical tough hockey. Ask Mike Richards. You just need someone willing to finish checks properly. |

If they go looking for a top 2 it will have to be in a trade and your probably losing one of those young guys in doing that.
I wouldn't be against something like this:
Provorov - Edler
Myers - Sanheim
Gostisbehere - Hagg/Gudas/Morin

Goaltending is not elite by any stretch but both McBackup and Mrazek have a history of being solid goaltenders. Mrazek had a rough stretch in his last year or two before this season but he had fantastic numbers before that.
Yes their offense is middle of the pack but Defense wins championships. No team in the NHL wins the Stanley cup by winning 6-4 games every game in the playoffs. If you let in 3-4 goals in the playoffs, you generally lose. |

Aren't there only 2 coaches to win a stanley cup with two different teams? So for people to want a cup winner, history shows it doesn't really work that way.
I like the Vingeault hire. He brings established resume. I think he will help patrick kind of like when he helped develop guys like Kesler and the sedins. - J35Bacher
Perfect example. The Sedins, Kessler, Borrows, were all young playing behind Naslund and Bertuzzi. They developed well. |

Here is the simple truth. None of us know how Vigneault is going to work out. What we do know, is that the Flyers hired a coach who is better, has more experience, and is more proven as a NHL coach then the previous two coaches who coached the team last season. - MJL
Previous three. |

I want team to continue to focus on drafting and developing players and building the team that way. I like players like Hayes but fully realize that he is likely to be over paid in free agency. I really don't want the team to make any big UFA moves.
I have no idea who is available trade wise and I don't like playing fantasy hockey. |

I realize that you lose someone if your getting a top 2. Most likely Ghost plus. I'm ok with that. IMO some of our young guys are going to be able to bring what Edler brings so its not really an upgrade. |

I never said you did. The Flyers are way to soft. The Flyers have very little push back. They have a couple of physical d men...but that's it. Richards played the game the right way. I will always take a big, skilled physical player who can skate over a small skilled player who can skate. |

You understand what you keep saying doesn't work that way. You eventually have to push some chips in.
You might get a window but eventually you just have to start over. Every team will eventually have to rebuild in a way.
I am not saying you don't keep drafting and developing players but you eventually need to push yourslf forward and that might mean moving some pieces to get there. |

I don’t think Mrzaek got the fair shake some think he had. One season removed and our defense remained the same and remained suspect. Mrzark was only here half a season. Even Hart struggled times behind this D with its same issues. I prefer Mrzark over anything we have outside of Hart. |

I think you can do both in todays game. If you want to win in the playoff's you have to be real good, but you also have to be tough. Toughness isn't about fighting...it's about being willing to pay a price that your opponent might not be willing to. I watched Marner block two shots in the last few seconds of last nights win....that's paying a price and showing toughness....from a guy that's "5,9" and 165 Lb's.

those are not the only 2 components of building a team. they are part of it.
any idea what is the average time it takes for a forward and dman to get to the nhl (become a regular) after they are drafted? 3 years? 4 years? |
