Its unbelievable the amount and content of the female doging being made about this hire. Its so silly in fact, that I am convinced now that the culprits are just trolling for the fun of it. Complaining just to stir the pot.
What a back read that was.....
Fire Hak, we should never have hired an inexperienced college guy. We need an experienced coach!!!
Hire an experienced guy with a mile long resume. He is not the right hire, he is a retread!
Puhleeeehz.
Clowns gonna clown.

Im happy with AV. Look at our recent history, we had a lot of coaches with little to no experience as a head coach:
John Stevens
Berube
Hakstol
Gordon
Laviollette is the only guy we had since the Homer era that had pre-existing NHL head coaching experience.

Bring in one or two free agents isn't buying your way to a cup.
Also we are now at year 6? When would you like to see this thing start to get past the playoff bubble team phase.
AS we continue to "draft and develop" other teams get good as well so it's not like we are putting ourselves a head of teams like NJ, Toronto, Colorado, AZ, NYR.
No matter what good prospects we think we have, we still have no idea if they will be NHL contributors.
So are we going to wait until year 7? 8? - J35Bacher
I agree with both in ways. They should build through the draft and keep the pipeline full. I do think teams like Tampa hit on picks faster than the Flyers but that is a reason to keep picking, that raises the odds of getting a Point or Guentzel.
However FA is a way to fill holes, if you have a need and a FA is the fill, yes, you will overpay. Pitt won cups by getting the right pieces around the core, not the draft
I prefer the right trades over FA but I would be happy if they signed a FA and pulled off a trade this summer...

I see that it took a number of years to improve what was left when Hextall took over as the facts. - MJL
The only thing I can say for sure is improved is the cap situation. Other then that I can't really say we are in a completely better spot. If prospects don't pan out were not any better situation and our core is aging.
If the game plan is still wait this out another couple years then why isn't the idea of moving Giroux for multiple picks and assets not brought up then.
I just feel this kicking the can down the road thing is going to back fire if your not making an effor to start moving some assets to push it forward. not saying i need to make some adam oates type deal but I think you can look for ways to give this a push.

Giroux and Voracek don't have two years to waste, guys are coming off entry levels and won't be getting huge dollars, the time is now to bring someone else in. |

I think we're in a better spot. Is making trades and using free agency a guarantee? What is the goal? Why won't Giroux still be a top player in the next 2-5 years?

I know people are frustrated with the results but people need to realize that this team wasnt a quick fix. I took 6 years to free us of all the bad contracts, the young players we drafted have only recently made the jump to the NHL. It's going to take time for them to become top level players. Our success relies on our youth to step up and be consistent top talent.
Konecny shows flashes of that,
Lindblom really improved in the second half, people get upset that Hakstol had him lower in the lineup before but Lindblom was awful in the first half, he did not deserve a top 6 spot at the time.
Bounce back seasons from Provorov and Ghost would be huge.
Consistent point production from Nolan Patrick is also needed.
We also need Carter Hart to not take a step back which is possible for a young goalie.
We have a really young team and we need to be patient with them. Adding a few pieces wont hurt but blowing up the team is just ridiculous. There is a ton of talent just waiting to ripen. |

Why are we acting on what ifs when we know we have a superstar now, along with Jake, Cooter, JVR, why is there an issue with getting someone through FA? Our cap situation is in good shape, it looks like we can get these young guys signed up and be active. What is the issue? |

The cap situation won't be in such good shape if you over spend in free agency and have to.re-sign top young players. The danger is that you become a team that is capped out, lacks flexibility to make changes and isn't good enough. There are risks both ways. |

Wait and evaluate has been going on for some time now and hasn't produced much results. Upper management wants action and I think that's what we are going to get. I'm not saying go and get 3-4 guys but I'd like to add a Panarin or Brock Nelson as long as it's not a contract to the moon. |

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on it also.
Sure Q would have been nice but he has hid mind set on Fla apparently.
After that who among possible coaches was a better choice then AV? |

Depends on the situation. If you manage a team like Homer did, you will run into these issues but if you are smart and plan things out you can make it work. Cap will go up for a least the next few years and you also have to see if there are guys that can be unloaded in the future if needed. |

agreed.
FA is a tool that a good GM is going to have to use to shape their team. You will overpay, just overpay as little as possible. Fiist, a GM must access and know it is the right player and right fit, if so roll the dice. A good GM will know how to work the cap and get out of a contract |

It absolutely does work that way. I've posted on this many times previously. I think the idea of trying to push the timeline of how fast this team gets to where it needs to go is the wrong approach at this time. I want a team with a wide window of contention over a significant period of time. It's about timing. I don't feel the time is right to start and try to buy their way there in free agency. As far as trades, you should always be open to good smart trades. However I don't feel that trading youth for older players is the way to go at this time. In a year or two, the team will have a much better idea of what it's holes are and the what the finishing touches need to be. Still a lot of youth on this team including a 20 year old goaltender to think that it is a team that is close. Never know what might happen but I'm focused on what is the most likely path for this team. - MJL
Conversely speaking, you don't know when a young, skilled, UFA will become available again as in this day and age of the NHL, these types of players rarely make it to July 1st unsigned. If you see someone who you think is worth it but wait, you could be losing out on a guy that could make up the DNA of a winning roster. Same things with trades. Almost every cup winning team has had that last puzzle piece that pushed them over the top, and if it comes from the UFA pool, so be it.
I just don't think you can ignore it altogether, and if management thinks one of those players this year will contribute to being a contender, than Id have to take their side on it. |

This depends as well. Young guys are getting paid a lot these days. No doubt they are gonna be pushing for big pay raises. When guys like Marner and Matthews get 11 mill, Nylander getting 7 mill. Guy like Prov and Konecny will push for Nylander like money |

Good points. I'm very happy with the hire. We also need to augment through ufa and or a trade. I'd almost want both because I think the core needs a shakeup. Just always seems like the same problems are present regardless of he coach.
