Is Karlsson that much better than someone like Hayes for example?
He’s a UFA
And would cost less I’d think
Plus we wouldn’t have to give up assets for him

Karlsson is probably better,
but not worth a 1st and a prospect better
Not IMO

I do like him as a player though

- jdfitz77

Hayes IMO is solid 2C and a great 3C

Karlsson is a great 2C

Their stats this season were pretty close and I would say Hayes has been the more steady of the two since playing in the NHL but a lot of that could be the adjustment Karlsson had to do with coming to North America.

If they didn't have Mitts already I would say go after both...BUT I would rather pay the price for the more offensive player.

Hayes is more of a 45-55 point player and Karlsson is the 60-70 point player and in the event of an Eichel injury I would rather have Karlsson there to step in over Hayes.

And McDermott made the playoffs with the same QB and worse WRs. What's that say about Rex?

shows me rex was stupid for switching the d

I do love the idea of 3 “scoring” lines though

If a Karlsson trade cost us a 2nd + instead of the 1st,
then I’d probably be on board

I do like him as a player
But he’s probably a 60-ish point guy behind Jack, and not the 40goal scorer we saw last year

- jdfitz77

I agree with the bolded

I don't know if Vegas would take the Sabres 2nd rounder this year but obviously yeah I would be on board with that.

I want to see 3 lines that can score as well.

Dahlin played on the right wall where ROR used to play, with Risto up top and Eichel on the left side. They then switched mid season and now Eichel is where ROR was and Risto in unit 2, Mitts on the left wall.
- sbroads24

With Skinner here,
who you say wouldn’t be if we kept ROR...
RIGHT?

And even with Skinner...
If ROR was still here, he’d be on the left wall & Dahlin would be in Risto’s spot up top

ROR > Risto

Regardless...
you still can’t let it go with O’Reilly
Get over it dude

If u wanna talk about Karlsson, I’m game
I made a whole bunch of points about bringing him in and u chose to focus on ONLY ONE so that u could take another shot at O’Reilly

YOU are the one bringing up ROR again
Wasn’t me...

Rex destroyed one of the best defenses before hiring his brother.

Are you saying he got a raw deal?

- Boss34

nope

he was dumb for switching the d

and dumber for bringing in his brother

Fair
But is Karlsson worth the 1st + when we could get Hayes for free?
That’s the biggest issue I’d have

if you get karlsson, you have to move casey to the wing IMO

you don't draft casey where they did to be a career 3rd line center

Well to me a lot of this depends on Mitts

He didn't develop as nicely as I had hoped he would have this year.

Do I think he is going to be a 2C starting 2020-2021 season? I am not sold that's for sure and I think he would need to be if this team is going to be good (assuming they signed Hayes)

I think it could take until the 2021-2022 season at the very least before he is completely ready for the 2C. I would rather have Karlsson for this coming season and the next in that role so this team can continue to improve and make a real push to be a team on the rise in the East and win a round or two in the playoffs.

I’m confused
It seems like you’re blaming him above,
but excusing what he did in other posts

Rex flat out made our defense noticeably worse by the choices he made
I don’t see how that’s even arguable???

You even list 2 big reasons right above

Idk...
maybe I’m just not getting what you’re trying to say?

I still think he can be a 2C but it isn't going to happen overnight.

Look at Karlsson for example it took him a few seasons to get to where he is now.

I think Casey develops around the same.

Have Casey develop in the 3C scoring role instead of the traditional shut down role that line used to be (that is now the 4th lines role)

I want scoring from all 3 lines

all I said was I did not like the hire of sean
and pointed out the bills and sabres turn over coaches and gms at a crazy rate, per cbs and nfl network pat kirwin

and sean got blown out twice as often as rex

nothing more
nothing less

terry and kim wanted rex out after they were eliminate from playoffs in his second season

they are constantly told to be hands off by paid consultants

and they are not

I hear ya
Just think it would be better to sign Hayes & not give up a 1st +
I wouldn’t hate Karlsson,
just what we’d likely have to give up to get him
