Nothing is worse than the sweep in 2013. That team had the Cup in their hands pretty much and just got killed in that Conference Final. This year doesnt compare to that. I didnt see this team as a serious contender for the Cup. I figured no way we got through Washington and even if we did, no way we got through Tampa (LOL!). This hurts, but hopefully a wake up call to a select group of people who work in PPG Paints Arena.

Full credit to the Islanders. They played a series like a team, no selfishness, no arrogance, just solid 60 minute hockey games. Good for them, hope they give Washington/Carolina a good run and possibly keep going to the ECF & Cup.

Penguins have a lot of problems going into this offseason. First thing is first, make sure this GM & coach are who you want moving forward. Sully is a good coach and I stuck up for him a lot, but him refusing to change and his stubborness is why we ran Dan Bylsma out of town.

Second, lets have a good draft. We have a decent pick in a deep draft. Lets find a guy that can actually contribute sooner rather than later.

Third, find a way to dump at least one or two bad contracts. Best thing for the Penguins would be a Patrice Hornqvist retirement. His contract is pretty much unmovable for at least two years. Jack Johnson sucks. However, he did nothing he hasnt done before so I doubt Rutherford even looks at him as a problem.

Fourth, dont do anything stupid. I am not a fan of trading Keesel, Malkin, or Letang, but you know the rumors will start tomorrow. You arent going to get anything close to fair value for them. I still think this core has 3-4 good years left, but they cannot do it all anymore. They need surrounded with more guys than they have before. That's a big problem when you have $17M in dead cap money going to passengers.

What do you mean start tomorrow? I started them already!

trade both of them.

You can absolutely stay young while trading away your picks. You turn old players into young players like we just did with Bjugstad and McCann. Honestly, who knows what we get out of these guys moving forward. McCann could be the next Dupuis+ and pot 25/30. That third line should stay together. Rust can also audition for a spot. We all knew our D needs help but I would like to find Malkin another winger. I’ve always liked Eberle but I honestly thought he was going to continue fading

The cap and some immovable contracts are a problem though. 7.25 tied up in Guddy and JJ for 3 and 4 more years. That's frightening sh!t. Maatta can probably be traded though......although that doesn't exactly help the age issue. Hornie is now a 5.3 mil 3rd liner.

Should have played him with Sid like every other year in the playoffs. MS really irritates me.

I'll take Eichel and Ristolainen... and you also have to take Jack Johnson.. and (frank) it, you can have our 1st round pick. God knows we'll trade it before the draft anyway.
- Guile

Ristolainen (frank)ing sucks. No thanks.

Younger, hungrier players.

Think of the haul Malkin would pull in! I'd maybe keep Kessel cause I think his whining all over the ice is hilarious!

I think you will be insanely disappointed at what teams would offer for Malkin and Letang.

I think there is a decent chance Kessel gets traded. Not because it makes sense, but just because someone has to go just for the hell of it.

Teams are shifting to younger cores, paying them more, and focusing more on them than ever before. Isnt as much room for the has-beens of the NHL.

That's true. I had way higher expectations for that team than this one. It still sucks how they completely cashed it in when they were down in every game though.

I have a feeling, unlike last year, there's quite a few undisclosed or nagging injuries as well.

Tanger, Dumo, Maatta and Malkin basically just came back.

It’s time to stop trading them away. Can’t get younger and add potential skill by trading them annually. This team is not close to contention the way it’s constructed.
- pghbirdman

I don't think it's ever time to trade them away, The pick we traded away 4,5,6 years ago would be here and contributing right now

Only ever trade them for a player with term and upside

I want the capspace back from

Gudbransson (Hagelin) 4 million
JJ 3.25
Hornqvist 5.25 (gawd)

Just undo these 3 things

12.5 million to spend this offseason
