It's more that the % of players say under 5'8 that make is so low that picking 1 is pretty much a wasted pick. We've picked 2 and both have been a waste. Not many Theo fluery's out there. Pretty much him and Martin st Louis are the only ones the last 20 years that made a good career

Gaudreau, point, Krug, Marchand, arvidsson, spurgeon, rafalski, Atkinson, sheery, Johnson, Zuccarello, marchessault, gionta, perrault.

Yes interesting news today.
Trotz is a great coach. Looks like torts has gained some game.

Mclellan hired in LA. Man the new regime sucks at picking coaches! AV would have at least been better

So is the Presidents Trophy now cursed?

Didn’t think it could happen but now the PT has negative value.

A 4th is nothing

Stone Benn Gaudreau Donskoi Kuhnackl Grubauer Hyman Klingberg Ferland Mrazek Gallagher Manson Reider Dzingel Palat, all of whom were taken after the 3rd round disagree with you.
Those were just some off the top of my head, mostly from 2010 and 2011 drafts.

I said 5'8 or under. Why are you listing players over that? marchessault for example is 5'9

Regardless the 2 I mentioned were 5'6 and that's rare. So why draft 5'4? That's just a waste

Small is small, I'm sure lots of those guys were smaller at 17 as well. I agree it's a risk that isn't worth taking but more and more small players are making a difference in the league.

I believe the lesson learned by the Bolts tonight is learn from history of teams winning the Pres trophy and being swept in round 1.

Do not panic
Do not have a fire sale
Hang on to aging stars until they have no value
Let time pass and fire GM
Hire idiot GM
Hire idiot coach
Hire second idiot coach
Laugh at other teams

Rinse and repeat.

Just a few of the kids I have been following for the later rounds.
I would have a couple Finns in there but the names are to hard to spell.

From Dobber USHL prospects report in April

A name to keep an eye on is Matthew Thiessen. Thiessen has had a bit of a rough season for Dubuque but posted a 44 save shutout which includes at least 15 high-danger chances against. Thiessen earned this shutout in every single way. Do not let his record that hovers around .500 fool you, the Dubuque goalie is developing nice and slowly in the USHL. Thiessen committed to the University of Maine in the Fall and was the 192nd overall pick in the NHL Draft by the Vancouver Canucks. Expect Thiessen to be a four-year player for Maine as he works up the depth chart. His raw skills are there but again, he is a raw goalie who needs work.
