And I think you're off your rocker.
- Makita

Really? Why would that be too much for a top 4 Dman today with top 2 potential?

We have a massive hole on the right side and he's put up over 40 points the last 4 years.

Unless you think OJ is going to be as good or better than him?

I'd still be pissed.

Just be patient. Wait for your prospects to mature. Try and get more draft picks so you have more and more prospects.

For example, this was MacKinnon’s 6th season in the league and I would say he is just reaching his peak. The Canucks do not need to go all in next year (or the year after) while Petey is on an ELC. His peak years won’t be for a while, that’s when you will need to sign someone to fill in a gap.

Why not wait for your prospects to develop instead of trying to rush the process. This is exactly what I feared Benning would do this summer.
Also, Risto is hot garbage in his own end.

Because he isn't any of those things you mentioned. He is terrible at defense.

You have too remember that there is soooo much more to hockey than putting up points, Karlsson has 5pts in 4 games but was on the ice for 10 against.

Okay in fairness I have barely watched Ristolainen play. But I don't think the door should be completely shut to a move like that. I'm all for letting prospects develop but beyond Woo we don't even have any prospects to develop on the right side.

I'm also surprised to hear people argue against trading OJ, I thought everyone had dismissed him as a bust?

I'm well aware that points aren't everything but we need RHD one way or another, I think he would be on any roster in the NHL.

I'm looking forward to seeing the division in Canucks fans when Hughes starts taking offensive risks that lead to goals against/games lost

Adding to that Buffalo sucks explains Risto & SJ doesn’t & EK isn’t working out.

Yeah, not sure if I buy that lol.

They were probably confident about PLD and apparently had a trade lined up for PK Subban so I could see them being disappointed but “scrambling” would be embarrassing. It’s not like PLD was a massive reach, he was rising fast in that draft class. I’m sure they knew OJ was their backup plan.

- Nucker101

Yup. I don’t think they started throwing darts after PLD was gone.

Kind of fun to imagine it though; JB and the crew in shambles while the draft clock ticks down.

What, you think the door to stay open to trade away prospects & picks for defensive tire-fires with offensive flare?

How many years have we been trying to rejuvenate other teams castoffs?

If Buffalo (another bottom dwelling team) doesn't want him then I'd say yes.

At least 25 years. And we as fans and media get way too excited about it. Every season it happens. I’ve seen whole pages in the Province dedicated to some castoff we’ve picked up. So desperate for a glimmer of hope.
