Tall, lanky, and skilled. That's a tough combo to find. Like 4 guys out of 210 or so.
- bloatedmosquito

Well obviously the bar drops a bit for skill/skating as you go into each round. And if a dude like Madden is 5’11” and checks the other boxes then he’s an excellent pick since he has room to fill out too and isn’t really a “midget”

im ok doing this outside of the first round, but i have always been a firm believer in BPA with first round selection due to the talent that is there, in whatever position the kid plays.

At some point, BPA becomes what you are desperately in need of within reason. The farther you are from the top 3, the more likely BPA becomes more flexible and your needs play into it.

That would be sweet, higher chance of a better prospect falling

Any other highly rated guys or risers you’ll be happy to see go off the board prior to 10?

You really do get everything backwards dont you.

Nice try. The conversation he is talking about was in the last thread. I made that later comment after he female doged me out about nothing but a joke and it's still not serious as much as you try.

You are trying to get him and I to war. Fack off.

I still like the idea of targeting taller, lanky prospects who have a decent combination of skill/speed/hockey sense.

More room for physical growth and improvement compared to the man children who have inflated stats due to being more physically developed at a younger age.

Obviously there are exceptions, like a dude like Anthony Mantha was criticized for having inflated stats due to his size and playing in the Q but turned out to be an excellent pick. Bo was also built pretty well when he was drafted.

And then there’s short dudes like Hughes and DeBrincat who are just dynamic talents.

But overall, I’d lean towards the taller/lanky prospects just for the potential upside.

Yes Quinn that s who I forgot.

I love petey and Quinn but just think we should limit the amount of small or thin players so we can defend against larger teams.

As for midgets it's largely a wasted pick as it's so rare they make it.

i am definitely not as in-tuned with this draft as years prior, but from what I read, the "tiers" for the first round are essentially broken down into 1+2 (tier 1), 3-12 (tier 2), 13-XX (tier 3). That 2nd tier group is anyone's guess as to who the best player could be. At 10, I think we have a good chance as any to land a good prosect, and an equally good chance at landing another "Virtanen". Will be interesting what the Canucks do outside of the first round though, my hope is Bracket really puts an emphasis on D.

Podkolzin
Krebs
Broberg
Heinola

I’m on board with Boldy so far but still want to see/read more about him. Would love Turcotte or Zegras to somehow fall but that’s a long shot

Still want to research more about Caufield, Cozens, Newhook, Dach, etc.

Seider, York and Brink as well

Edit: not a fan of Kaliyev either

I'm dating myself here, but I always think of one player when someone says tall, lanky, and skilled... I think Eric Daze and eventual back problems.

Don't know why, I just do.

again though, too much emphasis is on a players height.

If you get a Point/Debricant who can constantly produce, who cares about his height. Speed and Skill to me trump *insert Dons avatar* an average players height/weight any day. Again, if a midget can score 30-40 goals for us, and Bracket is completely confident in his scouting with this, I have absolutely no problem with him drafting more Madden's, or a Caufield. I trust Bracket knows what hes looking at as far as the crop of USHL kids that are destined to be 1st round picks, I just want him to be 150% sure if he is going to draft a smaller player like Caufield.

After watching Mackinnon dominate last night I say draft for speed and edges.

He's got the size as well. He's a poor mans McDavid on a better team.

i think i would always prefer that a player has the size/weight/strength to withstand what is deemed normal in the NHL, but i just what he did at the U18's the other day when he scored 4 goals, and the kid is a pure sniper.

Again, preference would always be an NHL sized body, but beggers can't be choosers, ill take a smurf if he can do what debricant is doing and pot us 40 goals a season.

- Codes1087

no other small players mentioned score at the rate Caulfield does against the level of competition, he reminds me of Brad Marchand the way he skates and plays, he is almost a goal a game in his career , you can't teach that kind of scoring, i hope we get him

Interesting. That would be considered an off the board pick so you must really like him
