A capital NO for the Rangers to trade for Malkin if made available, or sign a second Shatty defensive wise for their back line in Erik Karlsson at a likely annual $12M demand for a 5 to 7 years term, given his injury history toll. Stick to the plan, and if Panarin should become available, that would be off season and free agent market target #1 to speed a return to playoff contention earlier than expected, with their sudden luck of either Kakko or Hughes coming on board shortly after this postseason.
But if departing Columbus, Panarin will be most heavily pursued by his familiar upper peers down in Sunrise, FLA. (along with Bobrovsky). There his living desires will suit him best year round, along with those additional state tax savings which could possibly increase his price a tad higher.

Montreal will be in on a key free agent forward or two this summer to help make up from falling just short of the postseason in the East despite their 96 points earned.
Those rumored among their targets if becoming available are Duchene, Lee, Eberle, Skinner, and Kevin Hayes. Panarin and Pavelski are among two others of their interest, but not likely to have the desire to relocate there if moving on elsewhere. |

So what is the price point for Panarin that we all start to cringe at? |

I'm still not crazy about 11 mil a year. I think 10 is doable. |

I know, I'm still not crazy about devoting that much of the cap to one player. |

So they're interested in all the good free agents out there? Big if true. |

I think it's 100% worth it for him. It's rare someone like him makes it to UFA. |
