It’s hard to know what really goes on behind the scenes. But it’s tough to argue when you see Cassidy get Pastrnak going like that
- dragus84

It took him 3 games to get going.

I think Leafs take game 5. I have been 4 for 4 in predictions this series.

Its a must win for the leafs.

They've almost done it twice now, with far lesser teams. Why not?

Like I said: I feel better now than I did going into the game. Those positioning mistakes on the PK are easily corrected; Brown's stupid penalty, fluky puck off of Zaitsev's hand that paralyzes him... we crushed them in shot attempts, possession, and 5v5 play in general.

In previous years, we were lucky enough to survive to Game 7. This year, we've been the better team in 3 of 4 and Game 2 was an abomination of terrible officiating that'll likely not be allowed to happen again.

Yup. Leafs in 6.

BTW, why is the media and so many fans afraid to criticize Patrick Marleau?

The Athletic is great. The only place that does it. He's a 4th line winger making 6.3 million at age 40 next year.

Oh but...but..but Nylander!!!

- RogerRoeper

The media has called out Marleau several times in the past. But why beat a dead horse, hes old and slow, what we're seeing is what people expected.

I was driving in to work today (I franking hate driving in to work) and so I was listening to the Jeff Blair show.

They were certainly calling out Marleau. It's funny, because I guess they feel they have to do it in a respectful manner (unlike calling out Nylander) but they definitely said that he adds nothing to the Leafs anymore.

Pasternak >>>>>>> Melander.

One other thought that popped into my mind:

They signed Marleau to be that veteran presence - to mentor the young kids.

A year later, they signed Tavares. Marleau is now redundant.

Nylander was one of the more engaged and dangerous Leafs last night.

I am not really understanding the criticism. His shooting confidence is gone at the moment, but that kind of thing corrects itself.

I am more interested in his give-a-poop meter and actually it seems pretty high right now.

... other people seem to get a break when discussing their linemates, Nylander was carrying around Brown and Marleau last night. Brown missing an open cage was a major turning point in that game.

The whole line was pretty good, too bad Brownie and Patty have to play with Willie you mean?

They did play well, we needed Willie to bury his chance and Brown too.

I still have us playing in the 2nd round. GLG

exactly how was Nylander effective last game?
what he tends to do is skate around the ice with the puck, but no great play to follow. his sole true strength was always the ability to create some danger (either through a pass or a good shot) but he seems to have lost that. he was never winning any puck battles, but now he's not creating any danger at all.
his shots and passes are 'alibi shots' - no goalkeeper or defense is getting scared by them..
