He sounds very confident about getting this fixed. I know it probably means nothing but I like the tone of being sure of himself.

Love his repeated statement that the players are responsible for doing their job ultimately.

Seems like there are 3 conversations going on. Some people are saying Couts is a good player they love having but isn't an exceptional player and some people say he is an exceptional player because of his defensive ability combined with his offensive ability.

Then you have people that are picking out a comment used to support their opinion (+/-) and diving deep into the true meaning of metrics.

Yes?

I wasn't always a fan of Coots and while I don't ever see him producing to the level Giroux does I have come to realize that Coots is the kind of player that helps a team win a cup.

I'm glad he is on our team and I look forward to watching him develop.

Couturier didn't even make the top 3 for Selke? Well that settles that conversation

Well I don’t know about the rest of you but I liked what AV had to say. This is a very seasoned veteran coach who expects the players to ultimately perform when told what’s expected of them. The guy commands respect, I like that.

Yep, this is the team saying to the players, no more BS, you don't run the asylum, he does.

Who are the nominees for the Norris Trophy? Has that been released yet?

Surely a 35 year old undrafted guy won't be in the running. That would be embarrassing.

Because you guys turn into a bunch of babies the moment someone becomes even remotely critical of a player you like. Nobody said he sucked. What Couturier gets paid doesn’t matter because he can receive a heavy pay raise when his deal is up. We were paying Simmonds peanuts but the moment injuries caught up with him, all that stuff didn’t matter. He’s just garbage.

It’s most of you who say he’s elite, or as important if not more important than our Captain. So someone comes along and says how this isn’t true, suddenly a sob story In defense of a player you’re building up too high.

Some teams only have two dynamic players who are good enough to get their team over the top. If you think Giroux and Couturier are those guys, well god bless. I tend to disagree and I’m sorry if that hurts anyone’s feelings.

The selke nominations was one year ago. Couturier needs to follow up because we expect this of him and we should expect this of him, no matter what the rest of the team is doing.

Some of us think he is a top defensive forward. You disagree. End of story, let's move on.

Sounds familiar to the repeated statement of "players need to execute'. Who said that?

There was a time that I called Couturier "Stone Hands" and didn't think he would be much higher then a 2nd-3rd line center. And I was ok with this just because of his defensive ability. Now that he is more of a 1st-2nd line player that can pot 25-35 goals a year I'm very happy.

Is Couts as valuable as Giroux? In his way, of course. But they really shouldn't be compared.

You should see the comments on the Flyers' facebook page regarding G. Some of these "Fans" are morons.

As opposed to the other coaches that didn't expect the players to do what's expected of them? I like the hire, but if he comes in here and just expects that these players will just execute his system without the "ups and downs" the other coaches had then we are already in trouble. I want to see accountability.

That's a bad misread. Stating that ultimately the players need to get the job done is not saying that players won't be held accountable.

Yes, sure I get that, but are other coaches not expecting players to execute?

Too me that is just a sound bite to be fed because it sounds good. Every coach expects his players to execute. But i guess "It is what it is."

See what I did there? lol

And one guy plays on a line with Pastrnak and Marchand

- ClaudeFather

So what!? I’ll take Claude Giroux both Pastrnak and Marchand. Don’t talk these two up like Coots is playing with scrubs.

Not when he’s coming off a down defensive season and isn’t nominated every season like one of the best. If you’re willing to give a pass, that’s up to you.

I'm not trying to be a richard or get into an argument, but he said that he expects the players to ultimately perform when told what's expected of them.

The truth is all coaches expect their players to perform when told whats expected of them. Making this statement kind of redundant.

And "It is what it is." is another redundant statement that people just use for sound bites. It really doesn't mean anything.... but I guess it is what it is.

Again, that depends on how clearly the coach is communicating what he wants. On whether or not the players are getting clear direction. I get the feeling AV is going to be crystal clear.
