+/- should be a line or team stat, not an individual. With that said, there are instances where if it's so screwed one way or the other, it does need to be looked at.
If you're + or - 10, whatever. If you're -48 on the year, yeah something's up. - Pelle31Forever
So if the Flyers are on their heels in the defensive zone as they often are, due to having trouble with outlet passes or clearing the puck. If the team manages to clear the puck to the red line and the opposing team manages to take back possession, comes back into the their offensive zone and the often defending flyers only gets one player out of five players off the ice and the player who manages to escape should still get a minus should the defending team get scored on? Simply because the escaped player was on that line? |

So what!? I’ll take Claude Giroux both Pastrnak and Marchand. Don’t talk these two up like Coots is playing with scrubs. - SuperSchennBros
I see you only took one thing out of that, totally looked aside that one guy started 65% of his faceoffs in the Ozone. |

Not when he’s coming off a down defensive season and isn’t nominated every season like one of the best. If you’re willing to give a pass, that’s up to you. - SuperSchennBros
Dude, just stop. You are willing to give a pass to Kopitar and Toews even with their down seasons but not Coots.
I'll take Coots at age 25 and a cap hit of less than 4.5 on my team over those you mentioned. |

Is there a link anywhere to the press conference video or a transcript ?
Missed it, real world stuff going on....searches have not been fruitful.
Thanks |

I agree it is a flawed stat. all stats outside of maybe goals can be somewhat flawed - nastyflyergirl
If you really want to nitpick, even goals are up for debate. |

Again, that depends on how clearly the coach is communicating what he wants. On whether or not the players are getting clear direction. I get the feeling AV is going to be crystal clear. - MBFlyerfan
I'm just nit picking. I like the AV hire. I just hope that he realizes these players will not execute even if your being clear. They will give up or get lazy, or whatever has been the issue for the last 6 years under different coaches. |

Please note, I didn’t back read. Maybe coming into this discussion differently, but we have talked a lot about a buy-in and playing as a team. Both of those are on the players also, not just the executing on ice. Personally, I think the players we have are not difficult to coach and want to win. The coach is responsible for directing the approach and game plan. We have to work smarter consistently.

But the Fans say Giroux is an awful leader not won a PO round since 2012. Awful starts in games. Worst in the NHL! How can he get nominated? - xShoot4WarAmpsx
His team is no threat to anyone! Or the fancy lawyers at the NHL front office. 👍😉 |

I have no doubt they want to win, but do all of them want to work as hard as it takes to win every minute of every period of every game.
I'm sorry, some of these guys just expect to get by on talent. And they expect to be able to "turn it on" at anytime to win. Or they don't feel the urgency until their backs are to the wall.
Those mentalities are what has to change with this team. Not just the system. I didn't hear the presser, but I hope something was said about this. |

I like the AV hiring. long record of success without the shiny star....like most other coaches. flyers weren't going off the board here. he's a good choice.
the end. |

Yes, I think in his own way, he said this too. He talked about player responsibility. Look at the transcript later.
He at least understands the bottom line and because he hasn’t won a cup, he in a way, is on the same page already. Win. |

You are wrong..
The Flyers didnt take long enough deciding on him.
Doesnt matter that many good coaches haven't won a cup, AV hasnt.
He isnt Quenneville regardless of if he wasnt actually available.
The Flyers hired him.
Signed Team Negative. |

It just goes to my point it shouldn't be an individual stat. Your example is one of thousands as to why it can be meaningless. |

No it isn’t.
In transition, that one player who manages to sneak on to the ice to replace a tired player can still be directly responsible for a goal against. |
