It's a quandary.
I expect Botterill to make at least 1 free agency move of more note than Pouliot or Hutton.
He needs to act with a sense of urgency to save his job. Not desperation, but urgency - jcragcrumple
That one move will be Matt Duchene |

I have different definitions of simply being a playoff team and being a cup contender. - Pegullaville
I think we all know.
Your "theory" has been proven completely wrong with all the exciting upsets and close series.
Now we pick 7th and watch all these other cities enjoy April hockey.

If he wanted a cheap contract but I believe he wants a $5 million-$6 million contract
He’s like the Drew Stafford average type player that should get around 4m imo - gerbe75pts
May be so, i wouldnt know but isnt 5-6 the new 4? 10 is certainly the new 8-9. |

I had Vegas and Winnipeg coming out of the West this year and Capitals and Bruins coming out of the East. I'm still feeling confident about my prediction. Time will tell.
Edit: Like those were my WCF and ECF predictions. |

Yes I understand. Thats why I think the Sabres are 2-3 years away from being considered Cup contenders becuase we need to make the playoffs first before having that kind of roster. By the time we are ready ROR and Hayes would be declining heavily. - Pegullaville
But you want to tank even after ROR is gone.
Your answers are incompletely thought out. |

That if he didn't put together a calder like capmpaign in 35 games of work he'd be sitting on the beach in Barbados instead of making a mistake in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs ? - Pegullaville
Good players are allowed to make mistakes without having to give their resume that shows they're good after it. That's the problem, good, even great players (frank) up all over the place. That doesn't mean someone saying they made a mistake is saying they're not good players. |

Another answer showing you miss the point.
It’s not about who is going to be the conference finalists. It’s about when the Sabres start to win games and try the playoffs. |

Cant argue the west, but from what ive seen boston and the capitals are not as good as cbus or the islanders.
Hell its getting hard to argue the canes arent worthy of a spot in the ECF |

I'm excited about who we are going to get 7. I think that player has a better chance of helping us in 2022 then ROR would have. |

You mean 7th overall? (frank) no. No goalie is worth moving down 3 spots. Certainly not some schmuck with 10 total NHL games with a .909 2.92 line. - Wetbandit1
10 games is not a career. I think he's 5-3, which isnt bad.
He has tons of ahl experience which I'm sure botts has noticed.
He's the right age for the Sabres
Boston college background (jbotts loves college guys)
Just got named to the USA iihf team this afternoon
Vancouver already has a starter in markstrom
I also swapped 7 and 10
Not 7 and ullmark for demco
If we like 10 guys, what's the difference

I thought they were trying to win games up until game 55 when it was apparent that the roster lacked the depth, coaching, and goaltending to go any further. Botts knew it too and although he made a move for Montour that was clearly a trade for the future. Players don't tank, management does. |

It’s NOT ABOUT ROR.
It’s about trying to win now - after the ROR trade, by acquiring other players and gaining playoff experience - rather than tanking forever. |

Have to imagine 6m on a long term deal. Are you comfortable handing him an Okposo-like deal? - Lunaion
6 x 6
Maybe
At some point we have to acquire some talent
Were 22 million under the cap
Next year bogo and sobotka gone

FWIW I had Boston beating Tampa and Vegas beating Calgary. Pittsburgh and Isles to me were a toss up. |

Mike Smith had an .898 and led the Flames to the top spot in the west.
Hutton and Ullmark will be fine until UPL gets here in a year and a half. Especially if we can tighten up the d zone and score a few more goals. No reason to spend assets on goaltending imo

No, its about winning for now on. I want a team that can compete year in and year out. Having a cost controlled top 6 caliber forward making 900K will be imperative in a salary cap world, especially if we are paying Skinner $9M to eventually be our 5th most important forward. |

Botts has an offseason to clear out deadweight and put his stamp on the team. Let's see what happens before we pile on the guy for not making enough moves to have us pick 13th instead of 7th. No moves he would of made would of made us a playoff team last year. Even with ROR we had too many holes. |

with this year’s draft you may see a top 6 forward on the roster in two years. So the winning your putting together isn’t from NOW on, it will require more delay and waste of Eichel, Dahlin elc, Reinhart, etc |

What would a team have to give up to move from 13 to 7 on this years draft? Just curious?
Is that better then some much needed playoff Hope's and experience
Wouldnt guys want to sign with buffalo if we weren't a complete joke?
Wouldnt guys want to stay?
6 picks higher though? |
