They should have made additional acquisitions beyond Montour. - Der Kaiser
It was time to start winning this year and they were, then it fell apart. The problem is they didnt win a lottery pick. Had they, everyone would be happy botterill didnt try to save the season.
It is now officially time to 100% stop planning every move for 3 years from now, sign your current talent, bring more talent in and start winning games. No more tanking, and no more being excited over a 7th overall pick |

Botts has an offseason to clear out deadweight and put his stamp on the team. Let's see what happens before we pile on the guy for not making enough moves to have us pick 13th instead of 7th. No moves he would of made would of made us a playoff team last year.. Even with ROR we had too many holes. - Pegullaville
Again, I don’t know why you’re talking about ROR. I’m not.
I’m talking about a time when all we had to do was play .500 hockey to be a playoff team. There were moves that could have been made and should have been made to begin the evolution of this team into a winning club instead of tanking for a pick that won’t help us for two more years. |

with this year’s draft you may see a top 6 forward on the roster in two years. So the winning your putting together isn’t from NOW on, it will require more delay and waste of Eichel, Dahlin elc, Reinhart, etc - Der Kaiser
Eichel is 22, not 28.
Dahlin is 19.
While I get your point, it's not like these guys are hanging them up in a few years.
That being said, we need some quality vets on this team now. Anyone who says "so and so doesn't fit our timeline" is naive to the importance of good, quality veterans. |

We have no idea what Botts is going to do this offseason. Hopefully the word tank never leaves my mouth ever again. However after game 25 this year I knew this years version of the Sabres was too good to be true. I have a strong belief whoever we get at 7 will help the team long-term. Botts has to bring in players that can help now and for now on. We need a Montour-esque addition to our forward group. |

Those moves can be made this offseason that ensures that this is hopefully the last time we pick top 10 for a very long time. |

I agree Kaiser, but it would be hard to compete paying moulson, pommer , bogo and okposo 22 million
18 year old defenseman
19 year old 2c
Young guys tire Late in the season generally too
I'm with you though, we need to win now |

I have stressed this point at times. They literally do not have any veterans that have been contributors with playoff experience. Unless you count pominville and maybe sobotka with the blues |

Mike Smith was horribler and the flames were the top seed in the west. .906 and .908 is not "horrible."
They will rebound fine with a better defensive system and a few more goals-for imo |

I think you are underestimating what a strong running game and defense can do. Look at the bears last season. Keenum was the worst starting QB last year and we had the worst HC in football and we were still a few bounces from going 9-7. Flacco just has to be average and the Broncos will be a competitive team. |

I don't view those two as vets that command respect. Imo, that's what we need a couple of. Especially if we're going w a rookie coach again. |

6 x 6
Maybe
At some point we have to acquire some talent
Were 22 million under the cap
Next year bogo and sobotka gone
2C'S aren't cheap - Boss34
Sounds like you're rationalizing a bad long term investment. Seems like a deal that isn't going to look good a few years in.
I have my hopes that JB can utilize that cap space well in trades. Lot of opportunity there this year.

10 games is not a career. I think he's 5-3, which isnt bad.
He has tons of ahl experience which I'm sure botts has noticed.
He's the right age for the Sabres
Boston college background (jbotts loves college guys)
Just got named to the USA iihf team this afternoon
Vancouver already has a starter in markstrom
I also swapped 7 and 10
Not 7 and ullmark for demco
If we like 10 guys, what's the difference - Boss34
TJ Brennan was an all-AHL player yet couldn't crack the NHL to save his life. If it gets to the 7th pick and he likes 4 guys and doesn't see a big difference, sure, I guess, but I don't know if getting younger in goal is the way to go. And relying on him to start next year is crazy.

It’s NOT ABOUT ROR.
It’s about trying to win now - after the ROR trade, by acquiring other players and gaining playoff experience - rather than tanking forever. - Der Kaiser

Pittsburgh is a hot mess outside of Crosby and Malkin
Tampa is going to lose many pieces this offseason
Toronto is going to have to give up a few bodies
Bergeron, Krejci, Chara, will all be another year older.
It will be interesting to see if Columbus can keep the band together if they go deep, if not there is another team potentially losing many pieces.
Ottawa, Detroit, Rangers will still be rebuilding.
Devils, Isles, Flyers, and Panthers are all wildcards.
Sabres have a crap ton of cap room and assets to move up the food chain and be competitive next season. 2021-2022 will be the year we really need to go for broke. |

Smith was benched most of the year, no matter the defense both are bad goalies. Hutton is no starter. |

$25m
Call it $16.5 if, insh'Allah, Skinner re-signs
16.5 to sign 5 guys to make the team better.

He played half and Rittich played half (40 and 42)
Combine their save percentages and it's worse than the Sabres, and they managed to be the top seed in the west

Pominville 1000gp 700+ points. Been on a couple teams that made deep runs here and seen playoff time in minnesota. I think he garners respect.

Scandella, Hunwick, Sobotka, Sheary all come off the books the year after. Hopefully we can move a body or two this year. $$$$ will not be a issue. |
