MICHELLE OBAMA: "Barack knows that we are going to have to make sacrifices; we are going to have to change our conversation; we're going to have to change our traditions, our history; we're going to have to move into a different place as a nation."

Why would anyone want to change history? When you change history you evolve into a totalitarian state or culture.
History is history and should be taught factually good and bad.
Why should we change traditions? Like Christmas because people are offended? Or you can’t paint police cars with the star and stripes because people might get scared?

Instead let’s ban everything we don’t like or something that is associated with person we don’t like.
In fact capitalism is rascist ban it, the constitution is racist and so were the creators so ban it.
Never mind what the facts and history actually teach us.
Yet on the other hand let’s celebrate planned parenthood because Margerat Sanger was a gem and saint.

How does this equate to the Flyers or the Yankees? I would ask why the Kate Smith version of God Bless America was used.
Because they endorse what may have been a satirical or rascist song or because of the song itself?
Chick fil a stood their ground on their beliefs and I would argue it actually helped their business.

How many movies, songs, books should we ban? SJW will never stop and will never be happy because there is and never will be a world where everything is perfect.

Why are you dummies talking like Kate Smith is getting erased from history?

You're still free to enjoy "Pickaninny Heaven" all you want outside of the WFC. You're still free to admire her thicness outside of the Xfinity Live parking lot.

Nobody will take that away from you.

Just like Chris Rock said.

When someone says "Listen. I'm not racist, but..."

"You're about to hear the most racist s**t ever."

Because it's true. And you don't even know. And it is a big problem.

Exactly what this guy is saying! Drmidnite (who is on my is 4th very last post forever now) is so butthurt over something like this. Hes just part of 'merika and feeds the cry baby culture

Wanna know a secret? Drmidnite will post again because he can't stop... he loves the attention of being part of crybaby USA. Hes making a difference!
This is what keeps racism alive! The needless arguing over things we cant change and that dont affect our lives.
It gets old. 100 years ago everyone was racist. Let's keep the statues as a reminder of what not to do anymore
Like Elsa said "let it go "

It was SUPPORTERS of the statue that started this, Ilkka.

And your argument goes EXACTLY BOTH WAYS, genius.

I don't think it really would be as big an issue if Kate Smith was just a part of Flyers' history and not brought out when any "important" game came out. As some people said, a lot of famous/important people had racist pasts.

However, she is still a part of the Flyers franchise today, or at least was. That is the difference between what some people used as examples and this situation. Any appearance of the approval or ignoring of what she sang by still playing her music is not something anyone should be OK with in this day in age, when racism is still alive and well everywhere.

I think it's ok to err on the side of caution. As a white person, I can get over a (frank)ing statue and song not being around anymore, because what a whiny (frank)ing poop I would be if I got upset over that, compared to people that have been affected by racism in the past and still today.

What are you doing to help the issue?

Besides telling others to grow up?

WHY are people upset? Care much?

If you do, do you care more than that stupid recording or stupid statue? Which shouldnt have been there anyway?

- DrMidnite

If you think it's just about this one statue, then you just clearly cannot see the bigger picture. This is a worrying pattern of trying to eradicate history because someone claims to be offended by it. Well guess what? History was offensive. People were and still are racist. People who did good things even. You can't just decide 100 years later to destroy a person because they didn't act to today's standards. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. It's easy to get rid of a statue and say boom! no more racism no more problems. It's harder to actually discuss those issues and confront them, not just sweep them away in the name of morality. Being offended does not make you morally superior.

And there it is.

Flyers are a brand. Hate doesn't sell well. It ain't much more complicated than that.

Being upset over this is basically the most embarrassing thing I've seen on my years on this board, which is REALLY saying something.

Here we go? What does that have to do with anything?
I interact with people everyday. Different people everyday. I see white people being friends with black people and Hispanic people and vice versa.
I see guys going out of their way to teach someone of another race and have a smile doing it.
I see white people embracing the fact that Tiger Woods won the Masters after all his setbacks.
While oh my I saw black guy get invited to a graduation party by a white guy in ACE Hardware.
How many white people voted for Obama.

Reread what I said. In case you won’t read back I said rascism isn’t everywhere I didn’t say it’s nowhere.
Maybe you think the United States is just one big rascist country. If so I feel bad for you because that’s not what I witness when I walk out my door everyday.

So back to hockey.....

I really hope AV holds these guys accountable. I dont care what name is on the back of the Jersey...if you arent playing the system and playing right I'd love to see someone dropped to the 3rd or 4th line to send a message. I respect coaches who do that because I dont see it often

Save it. You can never have the perspective of anyone else. I didn't say everyone was or wasnt.

But your 'I saw a black guy...or Tiger Woods has white fans!"

Is laughable and sad.

JUST LISTEN TO EACH OTHER. LISTEN AND DISCUSS WITH SOMEONE IN PERSON DIFFERENT FROM YOURSELF, WHO DOES FEEL MARGINALIZED.

Is a great start.

Instead of upset I’d describe it as a conversation. Is the removal of a statue or song by one artist the issue? No, it’s the bigger issue because it’s another example of a changing of a culture so it can be molded into something you really never want to see.
We already saw this with the kid in DC with the maga hat and the Indian guy with the drum and how everyone trashed that kid.
I literally heard pundits on tv accuse him of thought crimes.

The Yankees and the rest of baseball should get rid of any of their history, memorabilia, player stats, anything prior to Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier. The league and the sport were owned and run by racists. Why acknowledge anything of what happened before the color barrier was broken. Why be associated with that?

Surely Kate Smith can’t be the only racist out there. Let’s delve into this.

Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig...all contributed to a league that excluded minority participation and yet we see these people as legends. Why?
