I just love the song God Bless America ok? I am just upset that we will never be graced with hearing that song anymore. It was an awesome moment during pre-game. Now such a great song is linked to a singer that cant defend herself, and is from a much different generation, because it's all about business.. It just irks me.

Seriously hate filled. What's wrong with discussing and respecting diverse opinions on this matter. I don't think anyone said racism is acceptable, just how we're dealing with historical figures is up for debate.

What I see a lot of now and I can't stand it is that people are so entrenched in their opinions, they won't even take time to discuss. Just say you should be embarrassed for having a different opinion than I have.

Yes I do. To remove a part of Flyers tradition and someone that was admired in Philadelphia because of "possible" racism in the 1930's.... 40 some years before she was linked to the team and before the civil rights movement that opened people's eyes is overreaction.

If you can show me that she was personally a racist or bigot until they day she died or she was during the time she worked with the Flyers organization then fine take it down.

But this is a witch hunt. You can't go back 60 years and call someone a sexist because something that happened 60 years ago would be considered sexual harassment now. There were different values and standards back then. If the person still does it, yes bad person, if not they learned this wasn't right and fixed themselves.

What really gets me is this should be a fan choice. If the fans want the statue down and the song to stop they will let the organization know. Flyers history does not belong to the Flyers. It belongs to all of us.

Stalin perfected this with "enemy of the people" designation. People would not only disappear physically, but the would disappear from publications, movies, pictures. Libraries would rid of the books that even referencing the "enemy", newspapers and archives would alter the group pictures to remove that person, the songs written by the "enemy" would be prohibited etc.
It's a perfect tool to divide and conquer, to install fear and distrust.
