I wish our guys would skip this dumb tournament. Why do they hold these things? Who gives a rats ass?

Competition
The Desire to win.
The desire to play.

I can think of many valid reasons why an athlete wants to do some form of their job.

I just love the song God Bless America ok? I am just upset that we will never be graced with hearing that song anymore. It was an awesome moment during pre-game. Now such a great song is linked to a singer that cant defend herself, and is from a much different generation, because it's all about business.. It just irks me.

Welcome to selective moral outrage, and those who perpetuate the nonsense!! I hope people come to their senses, but I’m not optimistic. They’re going to keep pushing the levee til it breaks.

Carchidi asked Clarke about it and he said she was not a racist. Looks like we'll have to remove Clarkes statue as well. Dear god what a mess.

I agree people that can't sympathize with people that might be upset about our past can't critically think.

I actually respect people's thoughts but I'm asking for a conversation. When someone gets mad that someone else has an opposing opinion, then there's a problem.

If only people were as balanced and even tempered as you are.

On another note, your poor sharks are in trouble!!

I enjoy the song and duet with Hart as well. To me, its a link to the proud past of the flyers. Too bad it's most likely gone. Ownership has done their best to push me away as a fan in the last year.

A group of privileged white males decided today to cover up a statue, and possibly take it down, of WW 1 & WW 2 radio personality Kate Smith today. Smith was a pioneer for women on radio and pushed for equal opportunity for women with body identity issues. Kate struggled with discrimination from radio producers and news media.

"An indelicate review in The New York Times on October 31, 1926, under the heading "A Sophie Tucker Rival", said: "A 19-year-old girl, weighing in the immediate neighborhood of 200 pounds, is one of the discoveries of the season for those whose interests run to syncopators and singers of what in the varieties and nightclubs are known as 'hot' songs. Kate Smith is the newcomer's not uncommon name."

As Pansy Sparks, Smith's role was to be the butt of Bert Lahr's often cruel jibes about her girth. She said later that she often wept with humiliation in her dressing room after the show.

The pioneer Smith became partners with Ted Collins, her longtime manager in 50–50 partnership. She later credited Collins with helping her overcome her self-consciousness, writing, "Ted Collins was the first man who regarded me as a singer, and didn't even seem to notice that I was a big girl."

Kate Smith is a hero to Women with body identity issues and her legacy will be missed as she has become a casualty of people judging a person's character based on words and actions used 92 years ago by today's hyper-sensitive standards.

Yes I do. To remove a part of Flyers tradition and someone that was admired in Philadelphia because of "possible" racism in the 1930's.... 40 some years before she was linked to the team and before the civil rights movement that opened people's eyes is overreaction.

If you can show me that she was personally a racist or bigot until they day she died or she was during the time she worked with the Flyers organization then fine take it down.

But this is a witch hunt. You can't go back 60 years and call someone a sexist because something that happened 60 years ago would be considered sexual harassment now. There were different values and standards back then. If the person still does it, yes bad person, if not they learned this wasn't right and fixed themselves.

What really gets me is this should be a fan choice. If the fans want the statue down and the song to stop they will let the organization know. Flyers history does not belong to the Flyers. It belongs to all of us.

I was really upset how they are handling the Shawny situation and this is pushing it over the edge.

If anyone feels the need to be offended there is plenty of current events to be offended over. How about we leave what happened almost 100 years ago in the past.

Agreed!

Don’t try to apply logic with the left, though. You will surely be disappointed with the results.

Caufield had a hatrick against Sweden yesterday and his third goal was a pretty one-time snipe from the faceoff circle. If the farm is looking to add snipers, Caufield should be at the top of the list at 11.

Everybody still triggered I see.

All this over a scary-looking statue in a frock, and a blurry video that we might see a half-dozen times (if we're lucky) in a decade.

That’s the narrow view. It’s more the overreaction, and the assault on our history. We learn from history, we don’t try to erase it. The looney libs are creating more villains, so they can be the moral hero’s. The worst part is, too many sheep follow this nonsense, and now here we are.

If it makes you feel any better, We're having the same problems up here in kanida eh! They've been removing statues of our first prime minister and general Cornwallis because they weren't nice to the aboriginal peoples at the time. Killing went back and forth but somehow we need to erase history in order to make amends. I've taken a lot of history courses i my studies and that just kills me. Ugh.
