I think we are all getting emotional. I mean the islanders just swept the penguins - kasperrko

Was just using them as an example substitute any other team that needs a goalie - Vukota
I just don't see him walking away from the Isles unless either he has a patently-absurd asking price or Lou is a total lowballing scumbag.
Isles have the cap space to make it happen. If our books looked like DET's then I might be agreeing with you, but thankfully they don't. There's no reason they can't shell out $4M-$5M AAV on a 4 year deal. |

I am off this mindset I guess it depends on what he asks for. Part of me thinks he may take a bit less for the isles giving him a chance |

Also lehner loves it here. After all his issues and problems he had and the islanders helped him through that, I don’t think he wants to go anywhere else no matter what. - kasperrko
Does Lou look like the sentimental type? If he thinks Sorokin is the guy going forward then Lehner can stay as the backup or try to get a starting gig on the open market |

Which is why I said I trust lou. If lehner wants an absurd deal and they believe sorokin is the future they let him walk and extend greiss or let greiss play out next year splitting with sorokin. If the kid proves hes got it then they move forward with him |

I think he might take a bit less, partially for that reason but also for a whole bunch of other reasons. Trotz's system is a dream to play goaltender behind. He's comfortable with the system and he may not want to risk going elsewhere where there's uncertainty.
And, most importantly, the Islanders....are good, have good prospects, have cap space, and have a management team in place that work like hell to make them better. The future is bright.
This isn't Thomas Vanek who has nice things to say but ultimately knows the team isn't going to be a long-term contender because there is a drugged-up chimp running the show |

I think your missing my point. If Sorokin tells Lou I will come over but I want to be the man after year one. Lehner then tells Lou I want to stay but I don’t want to be a backup after one year. What do you do? Tell Sorokin to take a hike? Or do you wish Lehner good luck and keep Greiss for a year?

Well that'd be a hell of a decision to have to make. I don't really know.
Obviously I don't know Sorokin from a hole in the wall, but I have a tough time thinking he'd be making demands like that. I can understand him not wanting to go from whatever he's making in the KHL to like $80k year in the AHL but to just outright demand the starting job despite never playing on a smaller ice surface would be pretty bold. |

Very good points i think who we bring in as a f.a. may play a role too. That's a whole other topic but I'm excited to see who they can land after finishing 5th overall sweeping a round and having a real coach and gm |

Yeah that's what I was trying to touch on in that second paragraph a little. They have cap space and willingness to add some real talent. They have a whole bunch of real strong prospects waiting in the wings to either come up through the system or be traded. Things are trending up for the Isles. |

I don’t think it’s that far fetched and that was my original question. Especially if he is as good as we all think he will be |

Ilya Sorokin, who just won Gagarin Cup MVP title: #Isles have great team, Lou Lamoriello changed it completely. But I have another year in my contract
WELL, that's that. Waste of a conversation
One more year to go and then we'll know for good. |

I can't say I wasn't a little skeptical of Staple's reports that he wanted to come over this offseason despite Eronko's reports that it was too late for him to buy out his contract. I guess technically things could still change but it's not the end of the world. He's 23 and there's time.
I'm certainly not upset with having more Lehner, that's for sure. |

Imagine going from awful for years to being like the hawks were or something similar? I wouldn't know how to react to a consistently good team with actual cup aspirations |

Speaking of Russians, one thing I'd be real interested in? Depending on what his long-term plans are, I'd love to try and get Nikita Gusev out of Vegas. They're going to have a real tough time signing Karlsson this summer with Stone's big extension, among others, kicking in next year.
Gusev was the top scorer in the KHL and is a stud. He's 26yo winger that'll be an arb-eligible RFA. He could be a great plan-B if they whiff on Panarin. |

Yeah I don't trust the guy sticking around his team to honor the contract he signed in good faith. Seems like a real scumbag. |

All indications are that Lehner likes being an Islander. He's only 27 years old. If he takes the Isles deep into the playoffs, do you really want to let him go? Not all Russian players make a successful transition to the NHL. - JohnScammo
I agree. I'm not ready to toss Lehner away unless he his salary demands are out of whack. |
