Greiss is a good example of how the NYI system is a huge benefit to goalies.
I don’t want to knock the former Sabres but fans tend to obsess over them. I get it but it drives me nuts. - Khymlev13
unless you are a hasek, roy or brodeur
95% of your stats is determined by the d in front of you
look at hutton last year with a decent blues D and this year
lehner with a decent islanders d, vs our crap
if price, rinne or bishop was on the team we iced this past season, their numbers would be within 2 % of what ullmark and hutton put up on GAA and save % |

I'm listening to Brad May between periods, he has that same job here with the Knights. H's still horrible. |

According to Sean Tierney's chart hes an elite 4th line RW. I think in a depth role on line 3 he can bring some much needed speed to the lineup and play in defensive situations. |

But we need to upgrade higher up the lineup & push guys down
Idk his numbers
But just from watching him play, he’s not a guy that moves the needle much for me
He’s ok
Just think we should aim higher |

He is one of the guys who is young (27) and not going to break the bank on a contract and can provide some use. Nyquist or Zuccarello would be nice but depending on term/price it could become iffy quick. Does Brock Nelson leave the Island ? He would be an ideal 2C/3C short term and long term. Hayes scares me.
The Sabres were rumoured to be interested in Duchene a couple of times this season so don't be surprised if we take a run at him if he doesn't sign in Columbus. |

Donskoi has 26 EV goals last two years playing 13-14 min a night.
He’s a really good bottom 6 player.

Duchene is going to cost and if the Jackets don't keep Panarin, they can afford to keep him if they choose. As it looks now, I doubt he wants to come here. |

I guess
We just have A LOT of bottom6 players already
And success with all those good players in SJ wont necessarily translate here without as much talent around him |

One can hope. I really don't think we are as far off as people think. We have some important pieces in place in Eichel and Dahlin and with guys like Reinhart, Mittelstadt, Olofsson, Montour, Pilut we have some surrounding talent. It depends on the coaching staff and what Botts can swing in the offseason. |

What really scares me about this team is poor drafting (later rounds) and development of the draft picks. Buffalo used to be so good drafting and developing. Can’t build a winner with free agents. Not with the salary cap. |

if every player mentioned has their best year, and we sign skinner
and have average goaltending
we are fighting for 4th place in the division
big gap between us and the bruins, leafs and bolts |

Ok, please have mercy and please don't shoot the messenger.
Botterill is absolutely in no hurry to find a head coach. McLellen was there but they didn't even meet with him after his son's team lost, they never talked. That's why to offer was made.
They won't pay Skinner 9.5 a year and Botterill is in no hurry to sign him. Seems that Skinner is set ( as of now) to test the market.
There will be turnover with the roster, I asked about Risto and was told 60-40 he's moved. Reinhart may not be safe either but he may be a later deal.
Botterill wants the kids to learn and bloom in the AHL and won't rush them, Taylor will stay there to make sure of that.
As far as AV goes, Botterill wanted to see coach team Canada then was going to go from there with an interview, never got the chance as we all know.
Botterill was ready to talk with Boudreau if the Wild cut him loose.
Girgensons is done here and it looks like Larrson is close to it also.
He would consider moving Sheary and McCabe they want to keep.
They want an experienced head coach but will look into Gronberg.
Housley knew a week before he was gone, he listed his condo by the water front and sold just last week.
They want 6K in the AHL and won't rush him, no chance.
He will get a 2nd line center but won't move the 7th pick to do so, he wants to build through the draft, he's big on that.
This team is way to soft and that's gonna change, he wants them hard to play against but also have speed.
And last, this is really big deal with some and i'm gonna catch hell for this but here it goes:
Eichel and ROR had NO ISSUES with each other, ROR wanted out, he didn't want to be here anymore, he didn't want to lose anymore and had enough. He only tried to help Eichel but at times with all the losing, everyone gets pissed off and attitudes change.
Also E; Kane did not want to leave, sorry.
Well that's it for now folks, please keep the insults to a minimum, i'm just trying to pass also some info, some you may have heard about and some you may have not. i'm no insider by any means just want this team to win and succeed like all of us do. - SABRES 89
I've always felt this way bout ROR and Kane. Glad to be verified. |

Does the Marlies' clutch results in the playoffs against the Amerks give you the sense that sheldon Keefe could/should be a serious candidate for Sabres HC?
He might be a rookie Coach in the NHL, but no rookie to the Head Coach position.
I think he should definitely be high on their board.

I think it says something about the posters here, as a group, that the information above is not really shocking. All of these items that Botts needs to take care of are clear as day to us. Don't rush the coaching search, swap out the bums, don't be afraid to take one step back for two steps forward, use the assets at your disposal to improve the team short and long term.
It's interesting that Housley was unofficially terminated a week before the season was over. I never felt there was a rift between ROR and Eichel, and it always seemed Kane wanted to stay. I was never too sure that ROR legitimately wanted to leave, but apparently so. |

I feel similar. They're not looking for "experience" per se, in the traditional sense of an experienced NHL coach. Experience could very well mean experience head coaching a team, regardless of league. But we all saw what qualities he's looking for. Two of those are accountability and command of the room. Assistant coaches aren't building those resume items. |

I really felt like this Amerks team was set up for a long playoff run, even with sub par goaltending. Losing the first 2 games to the Marlies, a team they dominated (5-1) during the regular season, is very disappointing. They better bring their big boy pants Wednesday and figure a way to score some goals. |

my gut said they wanted to call johansson up for playoffs before he got hurt - homiedclown
He was very good when he got the call. I do not want to see Wedgewood in Rochester next year. Send Wilcox to Cincy for all I care and with 6K and Johansson, they'll have better goaltending next year. |
