In a hypothetical Reinhart trade, what does everyone think we’d expect back in return? Is it for futures (1st + good prospect)? A 2nd line center? A good young player + cap dump 3rd liner?

Bots can’t afford to lose a trade involving a 23 year old established forward who is showing steady improvement

Agreed.

Not challenging 89's info, but I wonder what the thought process is there, with Botts.

At some point here, he's got to stop trading away talent for futures.

89 - Thank you for the info...good stuff and I do appreciate you sharing it with us!

Several good nuggets in there, the ones that really caught my eye...
1st - Team is too soft. This is music to my ears and glad he recognizes it and wants to address it.
2nd - No hurry on Coach hiring. Great news, there is bound to be a firing left that could be attractive...
- but it is a double edged sword in that a potentially more attractive opening is created.
- Glad to hear he is open to the Swede.
- I'd love for them to consider S Keefer as well
3rd - surprised a bit about trading Sam. He seems to be maturing and his play is improving, he gets drive puck possession and gives Jack good opportunities. I would love for him to be a bit more difficult to play against ... but it isn't his style.

Kinda no brainer in walking away from Girgs and Larsson. Simply need more production from your 4th, and I'm very much aware of their heavy D-zone starts and ability to flip the ice...it has value to be sure. But Goals are more valuable...got find a relatively productive 4th line. ERod and Okposso could be 2/3rds of it.

Now Draft Cozens, and move up to get Boldy...P R O F I T!

Could a Reinhart bring back a Trouba?

Yes, as we’d be doing Wpg a short term favor since Reinhart at $3.6 next year is a steal. But I’m not sure I would want that deal.

The best thing for us this offseason is that several capped out teams just imploded and will likely be making big moves (TB,Pit,Wpg, maybe Nsh)

I think what he was implying was that Reinhart could be a candidate to be moved at some point in the future not necessarily this offseason. In terms of roster construction though it does make sense because let’s say Skinner does get his $9M. For us to pay big money for a 2C, on the defence, and for goaltending we can’t really afford to be paying top dollar on multiple wingers. Even looking at Pittsburgh a guy like James Neal only lasted a few years. Kessel I think is the longest standing winger that’s making good money there the last 15 years and even his name has been in the rumour mill the past couple of seasons.

I think you are getting much warmer as to what they would want for Sam ...

Sam -----> Top 2 Dman

Risto -----> 2C

I wouldn't hate it at all.

The Peg may well be one of those teams that does a mini implosion.

You're very thin on the wings, and even thinner after trading Sam, although I know we're thin at C, too.

Wondering if a package including Reino + could bring you Trouba and Ehlers.

I’m a fan of Sam but love this idea. The other piece could be Nylander or Borgen. Wpg sheds salary to sign Connor/Laine. Buf gets upgrade on D and very good F.

That “+” would have to be pretty significant. Rhino for Ehlers is probably a wash. Trouba isn’t being given up for free.

Dahlin, Trouba, Montour as your top 3 D has me salivating.

Agreed.

Is the other (lower) first significant enough, in your opinion?

Trouba was the best player on the ice when Winnipeg came into town this year. I sat right behind the net where the Sabres shoot twice and he was a beast.

Dahlin-Trouba
McCabe-Montour
Pilut-Bogo (stop gap for one more year)

That’s playoff caliber.

What's Trouba going to get on his next deal? $7M? $8M?

Winnipeg may want more, but if Buffalo is taking on $13M-$14M in salary compared to under $4M going the other way, that is a big factor.

2 good, improving players... I would think will cost you the same. Reino and Risto
Trouba >>> Risto
Sam >>> Ehlers

At 1st blush seems reasonable, but I'm no expert. Peg ultimately gets lower cap hits.
Trouba is going to command what $7 -$8.
Sam should get $6.5 - $7.5

We need to stop trading away young talent. Or, if they are conceding that this roster is still 3-4 years away from competing, then in addition to trading Sam why not trade Eichel to NJ for a package including the #1 pick and start over again? I know these guys are not in their prime yet but they’re close and trading away any more of the young core is pushing our ‘we are gonna be good’ timeline further out, and therefore we will be wasting prime years with a rebuild drawn out longer then our already all time world record breaking marathon of a rebuild. The pyramids were built in less time.

Rant over. Happy Easter, may your baskets be filled with hope and promise that the Sabres can also rise from the dead and the sucking will stop.

Sure, but if you are trading good players for other good players who better fit the vision of the team...you have to give to get.

No doubt. My guess is it would look something like this.

Ehlers and Trouba for Rhino, Borgen, STL/SJS 1st and a 3rd rounder either this year or next.

That makes more sense, although I'm not entirely sold on Ehlers, but I'm sure I'm in the minority with that.

Reinhart > Ehlers but they are both top 6 forwards and there is a small gap between the players

Trouba > for Borgen, a first and a third but hopefully the added value of having Reinhart over Ehlers would be enough for Chevy to pull the trigger.

I like it for Buffalo, not sure The Peg would settle for that for Trouba...I would think they would want a proven NHL defender back. If they value Borgen that highly then sure.

I'm not sure who his linemates were, but playing alongside Jack could be magic
