I just listed similar players/picks to what St Louis gave up. I don’t think it is in the Canucks best interest (long term) to be trading away multiple young players/picks for one guy who is an upgrade in the top 6. Buffalo would certainly have wanted the 2018 1st rounder. - 1970vintage

Disagree, and it’s weird to see you post this, after all your more picks are a waste of time posts last year... - 1970vintage
I think he means giving up a 3rd is better than giving up Gaudette or JV |

The trade was July 1 so it would have been a 2019 pick. I understand why Benning didn't trade the 2019 first round pick with the draft in Vancouver but I wouldn't bet on the 2020 being safe.

If we gave up our 2019 1st++ for RoR we likely either just squeeze into the playoffs or are a point or two out. This year is the same, if we trade some assets we are likely a playoff team if Marky keeps it up, and Bo Boeser, Petey improve. When you see playoff teams miss, it is usually because of an off year for their starter, or a couple stars miss significant play time. |

In my opinion, the team is at least 2 or 3 years away from those sort of deals make sense. The Canucks do not have an abundance of young players in any position to be trading to acquire such players. Keep drafting and developing. No trading picks or prospects and no Simple Jack UFA signings. |

Ah, thought it was earlier because St Louis picked up the tab for the signing bonus, didn’t look at the date. Still don’t like it, for where the Canucks were then, or are now. For me the “bold move” is to actually stick to the plan instead of trying to fast track. We disagree on how close they are to being competitive which is normal for a diverse fan base |

I guess I find it hard to believe that some people see the team being further ahead than I see them. |

As I said to Vintsy I know my choice is not the popular one on here. Canucks have picked top ten 5 of 6 years and with their pick outside the top 10 they took Boeser? How many high draft picks is enough?
St Louis hasn't had a top round draft pick 4 of the last 10 years. Sooner or later you have to make moves and not rely only on drafting IMO. |

Yes but again big ice & not against NHLers. I could be wrong & still pass on him. Ehlers shows me size does matter. - Nighthawk
lol this is completely irrelevant in a U18 tournament and we are talking about an undrafted prospect? |

Everyone is entitled to how they view the team. I think bringing back the same team they played on the last game they would finish around 15 th you probably think of them as a 5 th place team.
I think the biggest mistake would to do nothing this summer you feel the opposite . No big deal. I always enjoy your views. |

But you know what St Louis does have? They have their 1st round picks (and later) from the 2010 era, in their prime, leading the team. Making a move for O’Reilly made sense for them, and it’s paying off. In 4 or 5 years, when Petey and Boeser are mature, and more capable of dominating a game I’m all for “bold moves”. |

First of all if you had ROR your team would be a lot tougher. Secondly it would be stupid to bring in ROR and Pouliot Hutton Biega.
I don't think anyone here thinks this team is one move away but some of us may think we are three moves away from moving up to the next tier. |

How did it go from Vantel saying Trouba is a bold move for us to ROR to St. Louis from Buffalo last year? |

I remember when Canucks were talking about trading for ROR , there was a lot of hell no on this board. StL grabbed him and he turned out great. I love teams that make bold moves.

I fully get what you are saying. I am not suggesting if we made three bold moves we would be cup contenders. I think making the playoffs next year (even if swept ) will be another step up.
The young kids have already started looking at their shortcomings this year and said they are going to work on them this summer. |
