I'm a ref at college level a puck shot over the glass that comes back in and lands in the bench isnt a penalty that's why they were mad. It has to go over the glass and land out of play. The bench doesn't count which is why when a player in his own zone shoots it in on the players bench it's not a delay

College is different than the NHL.....just a tad
