Mark Hunter does seem like the best and most realistic candidate.

Glad he left the Leafs. He was very over rated with Who he drafted. A lot of big plodding skaters. He belongs in oil country lol.

man, that contract is structured with more bonus money left than there is base salary and with a NMC so they have to protect him in expansion draft

Bud take a look at who the Leafs drafted under Hunter. He’s very overrated. Yes, he took Marner but he drafted a lot of poor skating, plodding defensemen. Please take him and then maybe Connor comes home when his contract is up lol

Hunter will be good,but need to get rid of Howson,Mactavish,need to clean house.

Mark Hunter is the best man out there for the job. Good instincts, knows how a team should be built. D.J. Smith is a really good assistant coach, when other coaches were removed and a new coach brought in - Smith was kept on. There's a reason for that.
The question is whether he'll be as effective as the #1 guy? I would have thought that we'd see a Sutter behind the bench....but that whole Calgary/Edmonton rivalry would make it weird. Mark Hunter also played for the Flames. Though his brother Dave won some cups with Edmonton. LOL

An E5 looks pretty high for this selection at this time. I believe there are still a few candidates with teams in the POs - or maybe even in the EU watching the U18 Championships.
Evidently Hunter has just blown EDM away to the point they'd make the decision before they talked to all of the potential candidates. Not that he wouldn't be a top-notch selection.

Or they are making this GM decision like they've made some of their trades.
