No but I’d heavily consider it if it helped us get someone - sbroads24
Sure
I’d consider it to get a player back
I’m not moving that pick to get rid of Okposo though
No way |

What if freeing that salary cap space allows the Sabres to get an impactful player |

As a UFA?
I’m not a fan of giving Duchene 9mil +
Or overpaying Hayes
*just for examples
Also...
We will have about 30mil in Cap Room for next year
Even if u sign Skinner at 9mil,
none of our RFAs will cost anything significant
There’s plenty of room to bring in a couple more guys |

if the pick is in the late 20s, move it to shred that contract |

I’d rather keep Okposo for one more year then give up a first rounder for nothing. Money shouldn’t be a problem for us. If we go over we can move Hunwick, Sobotka, Scandella, Sheary to become compliant. |

It is not for nothing, it is for an extra 6 million dollars in space. I dont think there has ever been a UFA class this good. |

Like I said we can move Sobotka, Hunwick, Scandella and recoup almost $11M right there. |

We're still talking about guys approaching 30, almost all are already in decline.
To put it in perspective, Okposo is one of the Sabres best UFA signings of all time, in terms of production as a Sabre.

The 25th pick could acquire a top 6 forward that is younger then the guy you are going to sign in FA. Or we draft a player that plays a role on our team even if it’s a bottom 6 role at 950K. Those are gold. Not to be given away to get rid of a contract. |

Yeah, I have to admit growing up in Buffalo the Leafs were my 'second' team when they were in the Campbell conference. They had Eddie Olcyzk, Curtis Joseph ect.. And you had to watch Don Cherry during the intermission.
Nowadays I hate that they invade our arena and we suck so bad we just let em buy all our tickets. I also hate their 'center of the hockey universe' B.S. We had to settle for 'Hockey Heaven' B.S.
So yeah, Bruins in 7! And hopefully they get swept in the second round by the Islanders or whatever. - notalent

Someone will value that late first. We just got Montour using a late first and Guhle. What does a late first and Nylander get us ? Zucker ? |

Yes but it probably wont. I dont think people really realize how bad the NHL draft is. It is not the NFL |

That's a good point
I'm just worried about 6 million in years 1,2,3 and 4 left on the deal.
Hypothetically it could cost us a good free agent or homegrown talent (sure)
Also , the expansion draft.
He might cost us a 25th pick type guy

I’m not saying to not get rid of Okposo. I’m just saying he’s more tradable next offseason then this one. Maybe we give up a first rounder later on to get rid of his deal. I just don’t see the urgency to do it this offseason when even after signing Skinner we’d still have 16M and we can move out $11M in Sobotka, Hunwick, Scandella this offseason. Have another 7M in Sheary and Bogo coming off the year after. |

We all realize it.
The problem is this team will NEVER win a thing until they build a pipeline of talent that’s going to supplement this roster when 26,9,23,53 hopefully are all making 7-10 mil.
We will never contend without hitting a few home runs in the draft.
Murray (frank)ed this teams depth and cap so bad that this is legitimately rebuild 2.0 |

2 options:
1) Use the pick and stock the cupboard
2) Use it to make a Montour esque deal to add to the forward group. |

Okposo is 5% of our team (1 out of 20 guys)
But makes up like 15% of the cap?
Some of these "just happy to be in the nhl guys" have to go. They are not winners. Okposo chose the $ to come to buffalo. Winners dont do that.
Hes a "happy to be alive guy" |

Sorry but Botts has made this cap worse.
Scandella, hunwick, pommer, and sheary (and according to some on here, he could have traded bogo his first offseason here, elected not to do it) |

looks at the cap space before he acquired those players. Wonders what he could have used it on this year. |
