For the RIGHT RETURN anyone but Gio and Chucky is available but we dont want to be trading guys at discounted value.
I like the Mony/Neil package idea but not many teams are going to want to add 12MM to their cap without sending salary back.

Is Monahan worth 12 million? If you don't think he is, the Flames come out ahead. Well, as long as Treliving spends that 12 million wisely, which has been a problem.

It's just the way things are with a salary cap. With the plethora of young defencemen and a bunch of cap space, the Flames would be able to fix any issues they have quickly.

We're not paying Monahan 12 million though, so that logic is flawed by default. Is Johnny worth 12 million? No? Then why aren't we trading him? You can make that argument for literally any player on the team. Doesn't make trading any of them a good idea.

I agree some changes have to be made, but the core of this team isn't the problem.

This is sheer LUNACY! Please go back to NHL 19 and stay out of any real world conversations that have to do with trading a 24 year old #1 centre for literal poop.

1) For his career, Monahan is a better point producer from Jan-Mar than Oct-Dec, so your myth around his pre and post Jan game production is crap
2) He's a very reasonably priced, #1 centre that produces at a career clip of .85 points per game. That is basically expected production of a #1 centre (Scheifle for example is at .82, MacKinnon .89)
3) Yeah, he's been shut down in the playoffs. The entire first line was shut down in the playoffs, that's the impact of a system, players buying in to an aggressive, fast defensive style and a Flames system of play that didn't counteract that.

You want to make a deal straight up for MacKinnon, I could get behind that. You want to package him for a 2nd round pick just to rid yourself of James Neal and you can GFY.

Barkov - no playoff success
MacKinnon - limited playoff success
Scheifle - limited playoff success

The Flames let Mack run wild, and yes, he elevates, but you put Bennett with Gaudreau and Johnny isn't scoring 100 points a year either. All of these score at relatively similar rates, all have elite scorers on their wings:

Mack - Rantanaen (2 years ago, Mack was a 50 point producer in back to back seasons)
Scheifle - Laine/Wheeler Scheifle has always been good, but Wheeler is an elite passer and Laine is an elite scorer. Both elevated his game
Barkov - Huberdeau and now Hoffman

Elite centres tend to have elite wingers and vice-versa for either to enjoy success. Mony is not a great skater (nor is Chucky), he isn't overly physical (nor is Johnny), but he thinks the game well, has a great shot and has elevated players around him (Hudler, Colbourne for example).

He's not as dynamic as MacKinnon, I will grant you that, but he's a top line centres on a lot of teams around the league. Mack was thought to be the next Crosby when he was drafted... hasn't lived up to that hype just yet.

Yeah trading Monahan to get rid of Neal is about as dumb as it gets.

Give Neal next year to get his poop together and if that doesn't work, buy him out. 1.9 million for 6 years sucks but it doesn't kill a team. Trading away their no. 1 centre, just to get rid of Neal's salary, might.

Suggestions like that make me real glad Hunk isn't running the team.

FFS - We lose one round following an unexpectedly great season and we're trading our best players to create cap space for no good reason at all.

Flames needed to lose before they can learn what it takes to win. Better believe they learned a lesson vs the Avs. Went into the post season casually, took their opponent lightly, didn't put in the work as a team and had no one step up when it mattered.

Lesson (hopefully) learned, move on. Get better as a team. If Frolik/Neal gotta go, so be it, find a creative way to get it done.

For me, Tre's priorities this offseason, in order are:

1) Get Chucky's deal done early
2) Figure out who your goalie is next year
3) Hit the 1st rounder outta the park
4) Get a big guy with skill/speed somewhere in your lineup
5/4B) Move Frolik and Brodie

What's scary for me is Colorado having that 4th and whatever their second 1st rounder looks like... They are gonna be a force for the next few years

Dougie on to the 2nd round. Bailing on those hits was Dougie just saving himself for the 2nd round. Smart !

Goalies are a risky play in the 1st, but kid seems legit. Like the looks of Lavoie, Leason and Nolan Foote seems to have fallen quite a ways this year too, could be a good sleeper pick or a guy you take with parts acquired through Frolik or Brodie deals if you don't convert those assets into NHL'ers

6 points and a +3.

On the ice for more goals for than against at even strength.

As usual, despite the optics of one bad play he thought was icing, he did well.
