Taking pod will fell like the Grigorenko draft
I’ll take Peyton Krebs before cozens - gerbe75pts
I'll add an extra month to our bet that Cozens is taken before Krebs |

Craig Button is an analyst because he got fired from GMing. That said. That group of players where we're drafting are all special. - TheSabresTaco
Special enough to "try" and draft top 8-10
Maybe I'm blind, but it didnt seem like we were really all in for a playoff push.

I understand you like Cole, but he is not the 3rd best player in the draft according to the vast majority of pro scouts.
That should give you a bit of pause to that top3 quote IMO. |

I feel like this topic is being rehashed and you may or may not be trolling. If you're trolling, I'll answer this one time.
We were not all in, and Botterill publicly admitted as such. "All-in" is giving up futures for "today" talent. IE Columbus went, almost literally, all in.
The Sabres used a pick to bolster the defense, short and long term.
So no, we did not go all in, because the staff understood the state of the team. |

It's not a good approach to just say wow look at that guy he scores a ton of goals in juniors he must be amazing.
I mean, he could be. He could be more, and he could be less. Not saying he'll be great or not, but there's more to being an NHLer than scoring goals.
Scoring goals is a pretty good start though. |

This. Hoping another team takes him and someone takes Podkozlin and Byram. Turcotte is my choice. If Caufield drops to us I think you have to take him. - adambuffalo
That's fair. I think there's a good chance we have a choice between Zegras, Caufield and Boldy.
Caufield is my choice of those three as well. Zegras is 2nd. Not saying Cole is a bad player by any means or that I'd avoid drafting him. Simply stating that the majority of scouts think that he's in that 2nd (or really 3rd) tier after the group of Turcotte, Cozens, Pod and Byram. |

I believe the worst outcome will be the Islanders versus the blues for the Stanley Cup lol
It would be The worst negative energy on this bored ever - gerbe75pts
Based on how much negative energy is on this board every day, I don't think that is accurate.
The negative are going to be negative regardless of what happens.
I've said it before, there are some on here whose first post after the Sabres win the Stanley Cup will be "There is no way we are going to be able to keep the team together next year." |

A) This is the first time in NHL history where the top seeds in each conference were eliminated in round 1. Also the first time all four division winners were eliminated as well. Even if we just sample that over the last 20 years that is a 5% chance of happening. We had a higher chance of getting Hughes in the lotto.
B) Botts has said he wants to build a perennial playoff contender not just a one year fix. Will the Isles, Canes, Blue Jackets, Avs, and Stars replicate the same success next year ? Time will tell. Out of all of those teams my money would be on the Avs and last time I checked they drafted the core of their team the same way we are going about drafting ours.
C) I’m happy we are adding a core piece to our team at 7 and we have a really bright future. I’m not going to remember missing the playoffs this year but I will remember when we are a perennial playoff team in the near future.
D) If you are feeling down, remember the Sens were in the Eastern conference final 2 years ago and look what happened there. Build through the draft, and spend where you have to and we will be much better for it. |
