Here i go with another trade down type of proposal...
Given 10oa is a wide open range of prospects & the JB’s see many choices.
If their guy isn’t there they have a deal ready in there back pocket if possible. Teams with later or multiple picks may wanna move up eg NYR. If say a Brink is rated highly by our scout team we trade down & get a 2nd hopefully. It’s one more pick in a good round to add D or a F decided by who falls or is targeted. Imo after maybe 8-9 picks are done the field is widened greatly but still lots of talent. |

Our need for wingers & RHD takes time to develop with previous picks already making waves. Madden & Rathbone & Woo albeit injuries slowing him down. JV suffered a Jr shoulder injury & delayed his progress. Patience as we all preach is hard to wait for but we are left no choice in that regard. |

Unlike Don ( and I understand his point of view) I would like to offer sheet a guy like Trouba or Kapanen. I would rather lose two 2020 picks than assets we have. I would like to use them for trades .
It settles the re-singing price even before the player puts on your uniform.

In here so many ppl value the # of the pick & not who is picked. That is why tankists know shlt & usually never provide in depth prospect lists. Very few here do their homework & state the reasons for those not obvious top picks. They get shot down. Those same tankists blame JB for everything finding any reason to defend their stance. I’ve proposed trading down many times if the trade gets the desired return so scouts & Brackett & Benning can unearth the later pick gems that happens in every draft. That is where i will agree with ppl that more picks ups the odds of rebuilding faster & better. I also stated more picks means more contracts & quantity over quality is not the answer. To further delve into my contradiction not all picks should be signed. Furthermore drafting USHL/USNDP/Euros allows for sliding ELC’s to allow more time to develop & assess them at a later time. In the end projecting 17-18yr olds is an inexact science but putting faith in the JB’s is where we place our hopes & rightfully so. - Nighthawk
Trading down later picks is fine, but the difference between a top 10 and top 15-30 pick can be an extra 2-3 NHL years, and the difference between a top 9 and top 6. SOme people wanted to trade down from 5OA when we picked EP. That would have been the worst idea in the history of the team at this point as it became known the Rangers were trying to trade up for him, and they got all the way up to 7. In hindsight the OJ pick we could have traded down and picked a different Dman, but a lot of people wanted OJ(others sergachev) and if we traded down, it was likely we didn't get our target at the time. Trading down with high picks can be the difference between your guy, and some other guy. Keep the 10. Reach if your guy is more likely a 15oa, because it is better to get him 5 spots early, than kiss him entirely. |

Did anyone else look at that tweet from FA about not offering dean lombardi a job and think he sounded like a desperate guy trying not to sound desperate |

Botchford lying not just for his own publicity... but trying to (frank) the Canucks as well.

I predicate everything upon value trading down with the JB’s thinking it wise. The depth of talent is their decision. This draft as i said is 7-8 deep then the next tier. Just my guesstimate. Trading down from 10th isn’t as risky as a top 5. In the case of OJ maybe Tkachuk was wiser but they decided the need for D a greater priority. That particular draft i had Sergachev but McAvoy for a trade down target. |

This one was though to be 7-8 deep before Caufield started to rise(if he is taken before 10 then someone falls) and Soderstromg and Newhook are both rising as well. By draft day it could be 10-11 deep for all we know. |

The 2020 draft has been said to be very good & better than this draft. Do we expect another high draft pick or improve or even make the PO’s? I guess that’s the hard decision to guess upon.
As for Trouba an OS costing us a 1st/3rd we would expect to not get a high pick & the cost would therefore be less of a risk.
On Kapanen he would be less costly & adds speed & tenacity at good value. Is he top 6 or 9 for us? What cost to get him? |

He is at the the right age to grow with this group. He is better than Loui and Leivo who both seen duty in the top 6 |

@Vantel
What do you OS Trouba & Kapanen?
The compensation is set at just under 8% of the projected cap for a guide to use. Eg 6.3m is a 1st/3rd |

You could offer less to Kappy and the Leafs wouldnt be able to afford it. He knows he is as good as gone... he knows the Canucks will lock him into the top 6... he may find it appealing and sign it. I really really doubt they match. Do other teams OS a better deal maybe... but so few sheets are offered. Keep that in mind.
