Dougie Hamilton cross checked a Caps player from behind right on the numbers but no penalty was called. I'm not saying it's right but that's what the NHL playoffs are. No one knows what a penalty is. - gergeswillems
It is extremely inconsistent. I wonder if the NHL will adopt instant replay in the future for at least a major or match penalty call, maybe delay of game, etc. |

Last nights game was a prime example of why I hate the NHL playoffs. It's a faster pace, harder hitting game and i'm fine with that, but the NHL regular season rules are apparently just thrown right out the window.
A penalty in the regular season needs to be a penalty in the post season. Last night was pretty much a free for all on both sides. Granted i think Washington was the main benefactor of the refs' "swallowing their whistles", even though Carolina was able to pull out the victory.
One simple example was in the 1st OT period, Washington player clearly shoots puck over the glass from his defensive zone, the refs even got together to talk about it while they replayed it several times. Clear cut delay of game infraction. Nope, no penalty. Inexplicable. In the mean time 2nd OT Carolina does the same thing, penalty enforced.
I know calls are going to get missed and quite frankly ignored. But cross check after cross check after trip after interference that goes uncalled over and over until the ref's decide it's an appropriate time to call it is abso(frank)inglutely ridiculous. - MnGump
well the flip side to this is to have a cross check turn into an unwarranted series-altering 5-minute PP

Yep, and the longer the game went, the more egregious the non calls became.
In a way it was fair, because both sides were getting away with poop, but at some point a penalty is going to be called and that is what makes the whole business lopsided. Can't pick and choose what to call. NHL ref's unlike any other sport have way too much leeway in being subjective when it comes to calling penalties.
Don't get me wrong, it's some of the best hockey to watch, but seeing how lawless the games get is irritating, especially when it can change the outcome of a game, ala Sharks/Knights |

well right! that's exactly why the rules cant change from regular to post season. I assume you're referring to the Sharks/Knights game 7. You just can't swallow your ignore penalty after penalty call and then drop a poop bomb like that. |

No argument from me but I'd still take him over Blashill. Then again I'd also take the drunk addled dunce Xizord in mom's basement over Blashill. |

Hudson Bay rules hockey used to bother me when the Red Wings were a powerhouse in the 90s, and they'd lose to perceived "lesser" teams in the playoffs.
I sounded like the Tampa fan who's in here trying to make sense of his team's epic choke job. But as the years went on I realized the game won't change.
Regular season is regular season. Playoffs is playoffs. The NHL loves parity and they're perfectly fine with teams getting calls and not getting calls. Do I like it? No. But that's what we have. The more the NHL tries to fix the game the more they screw it up. They're their own worst enemy. Idiots like Xizord are too dumb to know the difference anyway. Ignorance is bliss. |

No, growing up a Leafs fan he had no interest in signing with Montreal
The Tavares to the Habs rumours only came about because he was buddies with PK, there really wasn't much substance to them |

According to Ek the Habs were the favourites to sign Tavares. So really there wasn't much substance for him signing there. |

It wasn't just the Islander coaching/management staff holding back the team from success... it was the captain himself! There's no I in team!

He signed a $77 million contract with his childhood team - and a very good team.

No it won't....The Stars non call ended the game and there was no chance for Buffalo to make a comeback. The failure was on the league for not doing a review.
In this case, not only did Vegas give up 4 goals on a single power play ( a rarity that is seen less often than a perfect game in baseball) but they also failed on their power play on Lebanc's lazy hook and they had chances in OT for over 18 minutes. Vegas choked so much they needed someone to do the Heimlich maneuver on them. |
