Then what’s the alternative? Never have a number 1 dman? They guy is still money, imagine what he would do on two healthy legs? We need a captain to lead us into this new era, and some bonafide elite players or superstars. He’s both. You can’t build a team from the bottom like we’re doing and worry about 5-6 years from now with his salary. You can’t build a team hoping you drafted one that comes to fruition in 3-4 years because if you do that, you may be in the same position in 3-4 years and all you did is just waste time. We got extremely lucky with McDonagh when we got him for Gomez and please don’t say Trouba is a number one guy because he isn’t, he’s basically Barrie and Shatty (when he was good) None of them are Erik Karlsson, not even close.

So my question is, who do we get that can fill this #1 dman? Because looking at these teams contending THEY ALL have at least one guy like that, some have two, and we’re sitting here with no one like that. Maybe miller, ok, but you can’t build a team maybes

((TJ bows)) and I woke up way to early today to his nonsense

I just wanna know what the alternative is. Because we’re spending sooner rather then later and I don’t wanna trade for Trouba and dumba sucks haha

the alternative is to only sign a big time UFA forward this summer

during the season, continue to let DeAngelo, Pionk, Hajek, Lindgren and hopefully Fox continue to develop

UFA's in 2020 include guys like Josi, Krug, Pieterangelo, Barrie, Bogosian, Justin Faulk, TJ Brodie, Muzzin, Spurgeon

they'll also be another year closer to Staal, Shattenkirk and Smith being outta here (The Triple S's)

That’s the point. None of those guys are Karlsson
.
We need a captain too. You’ll end up paying a guy 3 million less then him and get 50% less of a player. What difference does it make if it’s this year or two summers? I don’t get that. They can afford two this summer regardless, with some tinkering

I’ll die on the Erik Karlsson hill.

I tell you right now though, if they do sign Karlsson, there are waaaaaaay too many defensemen here, they'll need to find a way to move out two guys, when Karlsson is at top of his game he plays 30 minutes a game

what's the point of drafting and acquiring all these young defensemen if they are never going to get a chance

Not every team gets to have a “best player in the world.”
Besides, it really looks like Karlsson isn’t even Karlsson anymore!
I’m not saying never sign a top FA, but if we’re going to spend >$11M, I want a guy in his prime.

We have a bunch of crap and some maybes. After the deadweight are gone, my dream 6 are

Miller Karlsson
Sjkei Fox
Hajek Deangelo

That seems very doable to me and it’s still has maybes or could bes

Then the Lindgrens, Lundkvists, rykovs who you can’t really count on at all right now

I’ve been watching him and he looks utterly brilliant again. And he’s on one leg pretty much

You’re all nuts I’m sorry

The way I see it, if we were in a win now mode I would consider Karlsson. But realistically this team is still a few years away from being serious contenders (hopefully). Why pay someone 11 million a year to waste the rest of his prime years on an average team? Not sure he will be this dominant 3 years from now with some of the injuries he has had.

It's the playoffs.
Who knows how much damage he's doing to that ankle now, that some team is going to pay for next season? No way I sign him without a doctor's note. I also don't think we're close enough to justify the inevitable buyout.
